    Where do you write?

Discussion in 'General Writing' started by Lord Malum, Apr 30, 2011.

Where do you do the majority of your writing?

Personally, I write at the library. It's nice and quiet with no interuptions.

Mostly my room. It's my own space and I like privacy when writing.

My room :D Peaceful (most of the time) and I can play whatever music I like while I write.

at home, at my desk, or at the kitchen table. I can't write with lots of people around. I have never been one of those who sits with the laptop at cafes, libraries etc.

Anywhere and everywhere. At my desk, in bed, on the couch, in a coffee shop...

I used to write on the bus on the way to work, but then I saved enough money for a car. Now I'm at the library every day it's open spending a couple hours or so there before coming home and writing just before I go to bed.

I write in my room mostly. When I'm out and about then I will write when I'm working. Either way I have a pen in hand or my laptop.

I always have a pen and notebook with me, but I do the majority of my writing at a desk, in bed, on public transport, or misc. outside places chosen specifically because I said, "I'm going out to walk and then write"... Lots of trees, park benches, edges of fountains, etc. It's pretty rare that I'm walking along literally anywhere and I HAVE TO WRITE NOW. I can hold it, like needing the loo. :p

I find myself writing most often in my bedroom. Though I tend to write at school, outside, etc.

I write in my bedroom, at my desk mostly.

Sometimes in the conservatory, garden, park, at work... have written on the bus, train or plane, and in all the various places I've lived.

I used to write song lyrics sitting up a tree in our garden in New Zealand. Those were the days...

I guess writing while sitting on an inflatable chair on water doesn't count? I do that a lot during summer.

But mostly in my room. In my bed or at my desk.

Also, is it just me or am I replying to a lot of your posts, Melzaar :p the Almighty one.

I usually sit at my desk and write. Got my little aquarium right beside my computer, so whenever I get stuck on something I'm writing about, I'll just watch the fishes for a while to collect my thoughts before trying to write again!

Great question, I first started to write on the walls of my cell block in invisible ink, dechipering my brillance after dark with the help of a black light. Thankfully the hurricane spawned wide-spread prison reform. The opressive warden was replaced with a bed wetting liberal who allows me to write on a computer in an abandonded guard tower.

Sometimes I write in my room and others I'll take a walk outside and sit next to a big oak tree and start writing. :)

The place I write most is at my desk with my laptop.

    However, I have also written:

-in bed [with both paper/pen and my laptop]
-in the car [same as above]
    -outside [same as above]
-on a plane [same as above]
    -during class at school [pen/paper]
-many places using either my phone [drafting a text message] or a pen and paper

I do most of my writing while sat in the reclining armchair in my parents lounge.

I absolutely hate silence and sometimes music just isn't enough - I need to hear people or animals or something around me to be able to stay focused. I refuse to fall into that "all writers are anti-social!" stereotype. :p

I don't have desk. :( (Live in a three-bedroom rental flat with two female housemates, and there isn't really enough room in my bedroom for one...) So, usually, I write on my bed or stretched out on the sofa with my laptop in my lap. Only on the sofa when there's no one around, though, as talking/TV REALLY distracts me.

I usually write out my first drafts by hand in the den (spare room) because it doesn't have anything like a computer or a television to serve as a distraction. If I get an idea in work I'll write it on an email and send it to myself at home so I can pick it up later. Sometimes I'll write in the canteen at work as well if I'm not getting talked at by my friends. When I'm writing in full I used to work on my laptop in the front room but my boyfriend kept bothering me (stupid man) so I made him build me a PC so now I write in my study at my lovely writing desk on my computer.

In a perfect world, anywhere I want but without pants.

Realistically and legally, my living room.

My room mainly. Anywhere where a computer is accessible, although I don't like writing in public areas. I don't know, writing is so personal that when I'm writing, I like to be alone for the most part.

Yes every where and any where. Laptops are great. I am always making sure I have mine charge up like a cell phone because I never know were the erg will hit. I even take my laptop to the movies and get some writing in before the show starts. Have to find a spot under a light though. Defiantly Chinese buffets. Ok so I am a little crazy.

I write when I'm in bed a lot. I know it's a bad habit but it works for now.

I want to get a giant redwood desk that I can tatter with failed work and works in progress. Something that I could spill coffee on and forget about it for a month; let it adhere to the wood. I want something huge. I would probably position it in a corner or up against a window. I don't want it to have drawers though. I want it to be messy and hard to manage. That would be the perfect writing station for me. I like to feel like a mad scientist when I write.
