    Help discribing a feeling

Discussion in 'Word Mechanics' started by DeadMoon, Apr 24, 2016.

I am looking for a word(s) but am at a loss. I hope someone here can guide me in the right direction..

It has been a long time since I have last felt the need to just plain out cry so I am at a loss to describe part of it. It's not the actual crying part i am looking for but afterwards, I want to describe that first deep breath in after a long cry.

I just can not seem to describe it right, to capture the right word(s) so a reader will get it and relate to it.
    any ideas?

    It's sort of a reverse 'sigh' isn't it? Agreed—difficult.

    long-drawn breath for composure
drew a deep breath to purge himself
took a lungful of air and steeled herself
all sobbed out, I sucked in a chestful of air and committed back to the task
inhaled a heavy breath and exorcised the emotion
