    Quick question

Discussion in 'Word Mechanics' started by Noprefix00, Aug 15, 2013.

    Hi, does this make sense..?

    "Do you miss her?"
"No... I don't," he said with genuine conviction.

    Thanks in advance!

Makes logical sense to me. The only thing I see wrong with it is that if "he" is really saying it with conviction, then there wouldn't be ellipses between "No" and "I don't." because we don't pause if we're saying something with conviction.

Instead of the ellipse which says a pause, I think what you want is just a full stop. A comma after "No" might be enough but you could also use a period or an exclamation point.

I agree about using a period and not an ellipses. But I'm not so sure you need "with genuine conviction." That should be conveyed with the simple, "No. I don't." (Assuming it is true and you have some other contextual elements to back it up.

ditto that... plus, 'genuine conviction' is redundant...
