    Gah!
You should go with a pay as you go phone. You don't have to worry about that kind of stuff then.

I have an O2 contract, which works well. £25 per month, for 600 minutes and 1000 texts (plus I get unlimited calls to O2 mobiles). Only thing is, it's just a SIM, no free phone or anything :p Although, I can cancel it with a month's notice. Which is kinda cool.

I go pre paid as with contract I get pulled over the coals. I go through $1000 every two weeks.
I have never heard of anyone getting charged for texts being sent to them though. That is werid.

I pay $149 minus 20% discount and get $1000 and certain free time calls to any vodafone mobile plus certain amount of international calls as well.

I get cheap rates too so it really good.

I use Skype for most of my calls. Free calls to other skype members, and I can phone ordinary phones for a very small fee. Really saves my butt since most of my phone calls are overseas.
And I try not to text. My fingers are thick and stubby. Trying to punch the buttons on the absurdly small cell phone is annoying.

No worries. Its true, and people have wondered why I don't text all the time like they do. Until I point it out to them most don't seem to understand my problem.

use skype as well but not many people I know have computers and use skype.
I'd rather just use my mobile to chat to people anyways.

Skype is sweet. Except if your father is.. erm.. torrenting and he eats away at your connection.

I actually don't even own a phone (never have and most likely never will). They seem restricting, and I'd rather just get an e-mail anyway..

 wow I....er....um....don't know what to say to that! I can't live without my mobile phones. I really couldn't live without them at all. Life wouldn't be worth living without them. Well it would but would be so boring without them.
