    Worst book/worst author

Discussion in 'Discussion of Published Works' started by Lucy E., Oct 4, 2008.

In your opinion, what's the worst book ever written?

And IYO, who's the worst author ever to have been published?

Amelia Atwater Rhodes. Her books are glorified Buffy Fan-fic.

You know that box next to the Wendy's?
The Knight by Gene Wolfe. Hands down the worst book I've ever had the extreme displeasure to read.

Umm... they're more like animorphs now.

Hmm. Maybe not the worst, but J.K. Rowling is terribly overrated.

Basic Eight, Daniel Handler. Yuck! Just the thought of it brings intense urges to vomit to my mind!

So is Stephani Meyer, but they're interesting reads.

Hmmmmm...I really hated The Odyssey. But I can't think of anything that was absolutely horrble...

    No. Twilight is dirty-girl-vampire porn.

    Agreed.

    Agreed.

Worst book ever. Eyes of the King by Catherine Banner - ashamed of myself for even buying it - it has vacated my shelf.

I gave up on them after reading the first three. No reason to keep reading them after the third book. Most authors who start out as young as she did improve over time. She got worse.

Pirate Curse by Kai Meyer. The book was just a way to profit off PotC. The writing was horrible and even contradicted itself. There were too many crazy characters and the plot was lost.

There was even an example where you get introduced to a character, then 30 pages later it's stated nonchalantly that he has one eye. I mean wow. You'd think the MC would notice this when she first met him, but I guess not. I don't understand, was the fact that he was missing an eye an info dump? It seems kind of important to me...

I wouldn't say that. Her writing is a shade better than our dear friend Chris, the lord of Eragon.

Tim Parks - Judge Savage is currently one of the worst books I have ever read, mainly because of how confusing it is to understand what is speech and what is normal text. I've never known a book to not use speech marks :S
