 The First

Welcome to the first ever WritingForums.org Writers Trinity poetry contest.

This contest will be run every 4 weeks in place of the already running poetry contest.

Contest Closes : 28th of March, 2008

The rules are as follows:

Only one entry per member, anyone submitting more than one poem will be disqualified from the poetry contest.

The poem must contain each of the three words supplied by myself and if not, the poem will be removed from the contest. If said word is the moon, it must be used.

Each poem must be a minimum of 7 lines and no longer than 30 lines.

There will be no editing a poem once it is submitted unless you pm myself with full detail of what you wish to change with your submission.. If I see that an entry has been edited it will be removed from the contest and you will be notified by the PM system.

All poems must be titled, if I find a poem that is untitled it will be removed from the contest and you will be notified via the PM system.

All poems are to be placed in this thread or they will not be counted as a entry into this contest.

The piece MUST be an original.

Using any or all of the words in the poem's title does not meet the qualifications - all words must appear in the poem's body.

Now with the nasties out the way onto business.

Craft a poem using the following three words listed below:

(remember each of the following words/objects MUST be included in the poem. As always, the plural forms of the words count. ie: run - Runs, running. Ran is not acceptable)

1 ~ Mahogany
2 ~ Dreaming
3 ~ Afterthought

If there are any further questions in regards to this contest please send me a PM and I will respond as soon as I get the PM.

Thank you kindly

Man's Best Friend

I dream in deep mahogany
as I sleep beside the sea.
A dark fire flickers,
watching over me.

The noble neck smoulders
like some tortured effigy
and the tight strings squeal,
crying to be set free.

The body sounds its anger
and the sea responds raw:
the cracking of the veneer,
the slapping of the shore.

The neck bows in simple defeat,
no deathroes overwrought:
a chordant whisper as she burns
in harmonic afterthought.

I dream in deep mahogany
as I sleep beside the sea.
A dark fire flickers,
watching over me.

Mahogany Rose

Carved deep
Mahogany rose blooms
Petals of wood
Never to fade

Old dust
Hidden in creases
Tell of time passing
Ageless still

Silent
Artisan’s afterthought
In sight of no-one
Mark of pride

Flowering
Ever dreaming of Winter
Beauty existing
Mahogany rose

Floating Memories

Dreams
They flit by
Oh so silently
Forgotten shadows

The silhouettes
Of memories lost
Flash concurrently
on the mahogany tiles

Without an afterthought
She smiles and waves
Waving goodbye
Goodbye to everything

Taking a last look
At the world around her
She closes her eyes
Her time has come.

Silence
It comes so slowly
The seconds chip away
She is still.

Dawn breaks
The sun peeks out from the horizon
She is but a memory
Lost and forgotten.

World of Dreams

Nothing means more to me
than the dream I used to dream
The morn of stars and fiery orb
steals my heart from sleep

This mortal world of lies
traps me in a nightmare scene
with not an afterthought
of the wistful dreams I dream

And weeping deep mahogany
I push my soul to silence
In the sun, work to be done
I force my sorrow aside

I push myself another day
and hope to make it through
for when I'm home and all alone
The world of dreams comes a new

Me&You

You're just the afterthoughts
Of dreaming in paper green
Of being in magazines
And in starring in the major scenes.

You're just the afterthoughts
Of rich mahogany scents, and
No paper and no pen
Can create a picture making you fitting.

You're just the afterthoughts
Of a glass one too many, and
Extra bites after you'd had plenty
And taking in more than your fill.

You're just the afterthoughts,
And you're just a disgrace.
You're the start to all my problems,
The end to all my days...

But from the old afterthoughts
And the torn memories
I find the sickening reality
Of the person that is 'me'.

Night Song

The warmth of your body melts into me
musk and patchouli, your fragrance divine
a cinnamon afterthought wafts from your lips
I lie wrapped around you, at consummate peace
jealous moon watches from October skies
as the world of my thoughts is solely comprised
of mahogany skin, and caramel eyes

The tide of your breathing, a somnolent sea
A moan escapes you as dreaming you lie
You wake for a moment, and grant me a smile
then settle in closer and we both drift asleep
lonely moon watches from October skies
but the world of my thoughts is solely comprised
of your satin mahogany skin,
and your sparkling caramel eyes.

What dream is this?

Here I stand, behind the sun,
Gazing through this blinding light,
At this passing scene, asking,
What dream is this?

Here I stand, behind the moon,
Gazing past this crystal glass,
At this great wander, asking,
What dream is this?

Here I stand, behind the stars,
Gazing through this sea of diamonds,

What dream is this?

Here I stand, behind the sky,

Perpetual Afterthought

Like a stone skipping on the waves
I skip from reality to dreaming phase
One skip here, another skip there
Leaving me in a mahogany haze
Everything is a blur
I am always unsure
What is real and what is dream
I feel like I am in a state
Of perpetual afterthought
All the scenes jumbled
From skip to skip
Fleeting sensations
In the pit of my stomach
Never able to make sense of it
