    Book idea.

Discussion in 'Setting Development' started by NickKrig, Jun 21, 2011.

Tell me if this is a good idea for a book. It is loosely based off the show deadliest warriors, but its about people who go back in time and abduct histories most notorious fighters. Put them in a ring and watch the fight for entertainment. It offers alot to write about and explore but i am wondering if people would want to read it.

I like the idea about going back in history and abducting people. Not so sure about fighting in a ring though. Are there any other options?

Not sure you've given us enough details to offer an opinion. I can't say what other people will or won't read, since everyone's taste differs, but I can say that you don't have a story right now, just a concept, a backdrop. Who are the POV characters? What are the conflicts, and what's at stake here? Perhaps with a bit more clarity, we can offer better guidance.

Have to agree with this ^ completely. Willing to try to help, but I don't see anything to help with at the moment...

I like the idea of the ring fighting, but you should expand on the history part. How do they travel in time, and how do they deal with the repercussions of taking people out of their times?

Didn't Bill and Ted already do this? Not the fighting, but kidnapping historic people?

some people will read anything... and anything one can write will be read by some people...

what counts is not if anyone will read something, but if enough people will pay to read it, that a publisher can make a profit on it...

That is a hard question to answer. It depends on the place, time and the mood people are in. You can do marketing demographics to determine if your genera is popular right now and so on.

I personally will read any thing, and I mean any thing, as long as it is not boring. I have picked up many books that are and only got to chapter 4 before I put them down and it was not because of the story they were telling it was because I got bored.

Just to let you know. if they abducted them and had them fight to the death, it would seriously screw with our history.

    However the premise is great.

I remember hearing about an episode of Star Trek where some alien played with Kirk, Spock and their heroes has toys and made them kill each other.

But they did some weird other dimensional plea and they never died or something.

    So that is an option.

Or a paradox machine :) (bet no one understands that one!)

Sounds good man, you should start writing it. You can go so many ways with the story, I would recommend watching Gladiator with Russell Crowe so you get the feeling of the arena if you do follow through with that idea. Good luck!

    Why the doctor of course!

But seriously this proposes a massive paradox, you work your way out of that and avoid cliche you'll be fine.

Oh man, this'll probably get deleted but he is from a long-running(like long) British sci-fi show called Doctor who.

One episode involved people killing their ancestors so the villain used this "Tardis" to hold the paradox.

You may be able to use a certain similar idea.

Well gee my humblest of apologies.

But you insulted all whovians by not knowing the Doctor, there have been 11 of them.

Funny spoof on Abbot and Costello's, "Who's on first."

Note, I did not write this I just replaced "First Base" with "The Doctor". It fits.

Interesting, but you may just be able to ignore the paradox.

Oh ya sorry. Let see going back in time, capturing warriors, bring them forward in time to fight a battle or a war. Oh, and you have to do this without messing up the time-line. It can be done as long as you return them back to the time they came from when the war is over.
