Short Story What We Talk About When We Talk About Anne Frank

Discussion in 'Genre Discussions' started by A.M.P., Jan 30, 2015.

I just wanted to share a link to a short story I found randomly.
Humorous, insightful, and suddenly so very dark.

It just truly shows how a simple story, that spans a whole hour of a day to day life, can say so much about the people in it and about the world. Just amazing.

You really don't need a complex setting and epic characters to truly make something memorable or meaningful.

I feel so honored to share the same birthday as her.

Thanks for posting this. Was a really interesting read. It reminded me of that play/film, Carnage.

    Her words:

'I don't hate anybody, I think there is good in everyone' are pretty radical.

Anne Frank is the reason I started to write a diary. My thought process was if Anne Frank hadn't kept diary we might have harder time to understand what was going on in the mind of those hiding people. Of course Frank's age makes it even more interesting.

What I really enjoyed was my own shifting relationship to the characters as the story went on. At first I was annoyed with the narrator for refusing to use the Hebrew names, but as it went on, and as he reacted to the developing situation, I liked him more and more.

I never found it particularly inspiring or moving. There are literally thousands if not millions of stories just as touching and much more horrifying from all over the world.

Are you referring to Anne Frank or story in the post?
