Novel Writing and loving it (for a change)

Discussion in 'Genre Discussions' started by tcol4417, May 1, 2011.

Good news everyone! For the first time ever I've hit the 20k mark without any (significant) misgivings re: overarching narrative, micro arcs, scale/ambition of the project, characters, foreshadowing or the writing style involved.

It only took four months and burnt through seven separate iterations of varying fidelity to the current incarnation. Going forwards from this point is looking a little shaky, but the framework has already been established so hopefully it will work out well enough.

Just an encouraging word to anyone trekking through Edith Wharton's Gobi Desert: Don't abandon it just because it's hard. Cutting diamonds takes time.

When you hit your stride, you'll know it. It's a good feeling.

Congratulations! Isn't it awesome when you hit such a high word count? Who knew us wee ones had so much to say. :p

    Good luck and keep writing.

I hope I'm still loving my writing after 20K, I'm at 4.5K at the moment and going strong.

You probably will. The feeling of commitment paying off is brilliant *_* I'm at 49k now and I'm still in love with my novel, despite it being nowhere near prefect.

    Congrats for reaching 20k! ^^

That's good for you. Congratulations! The last few times I dumped 20k I ended up dumping the idea.
