    Images associated with Charles Darwin.

Discussion in 'Research' started by Elgaisma, Dec 5, 2010.

What images make you think of Charles Darwin.

I was going to use a beagle, birds, turtles and a dodo (know it is a bird) - my husband didn't get it lol

Help I need to make it clear it is him.

I would have said Monkeys and Humans beside each other would have been one.

Massive beards is a good start. :p

Be more specific about the birds, maybe? His most famous ones are the finches or whatever they were with all the different beaks. If we're literally talking images it's not hard to find a picture of the beak line-up on Google.

Then there were some pretty rude political cartoons at the time that portrayed him AS a monkey...

    lol

    anyways

I don't mean to sound bad but
    is he book savvy?
would he even know the guys name or would he needed to be reimiend?

lots of people know the story but they don't know many images]\facts
for example how many of you know what a finch looks like?
    most don't
turtles all look the same to most people
the islands are kind of unique but most people wont be able to name them

    It would be Charles Darwin

Anybody it is an adult book. Personally my kids got it from the list - they guessed Charlie Brown and then Charles Darwin lol My husband didn't - he is vaguely intelligent but then he didn't get Joan of Arc from praying farmgirl, french flag, english flag and images of fire lol.

The images will be sewn into a quilt using 'magic' thread and whereas Charles in my book had previously been seven with an interest in birds and their differences, nervous stomach etc he is now only four and has just appeared so he needs to be identified from his quilt.

So it is what images does Charles Darwin bring to your mind?

I'd still go with monkey and human standing side by side. A turtle, or fish, or bird isn't going to make me think of him sorry! Human and monkey together, especially monkey following human (cause of those diagrams) will make it obvious.

You could describe it as though it's a monkey chasing a human - character doesn't get it, reader does, you know? :)

It's likely kicking in an open door, but did you try "Charles Darwin" on Google Images? Or Darwinism? That should bring you to websites where Darwin is discussed. I also recall a movie on Darwin's life.

Actually I still have to rewrite this bit. However google is useless to me on this, I know what I personally would associate with Charles Darwin, but I am too academically involved - for me a Beagle dog, a dodo, some turtles or birds would have given it away easily. Especially coupled with the little boy with stomach trouble called Little Chick.

I wanted to see what other people would have picked.

The darwin fish? That or maybe the progression from the lesser primates to a human with a big, bushy, darwin-like beard?
