    Yay! New Book Out!

Discussion in 'Success Stories' started by BayView, May 4, 2015.

    Yay!

I have a new novel out!

m/m romance, but in a speculative fiction setting. The blurb?

As an elite Sacrati fighter in the mighty Torian military, Theos is blessed with a city full of women who want to bear his children, and a barracks full of men proud to fight at his side and share his bed. He has everything he needs—until he captures Finnvid on a raid.

Finnvid is on a secret mission to prevent the Torian invasion of his homeland Elkat. Being enslaved by Torian soldiers wasn’t in his plans. Neither is his horrified fascination with the casual promiscuity of the Sacrati warriors. Men should not lie with other men—and he should not be so intrigued when they do. He definitely should not be most intrigued by the leader of the soldiers who captured him and plan to invade his home.

For Theos, everything would have been easier if the infuriating, lying, bewildering Elkati had never come into his life, but he can’t stay away. When betrayal and treachery threaten both their nations, they must work together to stop a war that could destroy their homes forever—even as they begin to question everything they’re fighting for.

    Congrats, Bay :3
Kinda makes me miss the Nightrunner series just by the blurb.

Congrats, that sounds really interesting. :)

The cover reminds me of Assassin's Creed, which immediately made me think of old timey parkour and sword fights. :D

@KaTrian, what is "old timey" parkour? I am familiar with parkour.

Parkour in a historical setting :D I totally made that up. But the cover reminded me of Assassin's Creed which made me think of video games and how you parkour with vid game characters... Which is a lot easier than real life parkour :ninja:.

Another new book out, this one in a new sub-genre (YA romance) with a new pseudonym.

It's reminding me how hard it is to do promo when you're new! I'm trying to mention things on my old pseudonym's social media spots, but it's a different crowd and I'm not sure there'll be much crossover.

Luckily the publisher seems to be doing a pretty good job of getting the word out through their channels.

    We'll see how it goes!

And in case anyone's interested - Center Ice, YA romance, coming from Entangled Publishing May 19, 2015. Yay! http://www.entangledpublishing.com/center-ice/

ETA: Does THIS cover remind people of any video games?

And now it's at Amazon #1!

Well... in a way. A very convoluted, not-at-all-real way...

    But it's #1 in Kindle Store > Kindle eBooks > Children's eBooks > Sports & Outdoors > Hockey

So... suck it, other authors of children's eBooks about hockey! There's a new player in town! Kind of...

Well, there's this Japanese dating video game called Ice Center, and on the cover, the guy is in the chick's arms...

Nah, just yanking your chain. :D

Actually, I think Amazon's extended categories that let books be ranked very high are excellent marketing ploys and I'd bask in it were it me. Go for it girl, you have a book in the top 10 sellers! :agreed:

Solid reviews in PW and Kirkus for the book that's coming out in August. The theory, as I understand it, is that these reviews will influence bookstore purchasers and convince them to order more copies of the book before it's published. That would be nice...

PW is password-protected, but they say "Cameron’s characters are complex and well crafted, and each one, from the main protagonists to the various personalities living in Lake Sullivan, feels real—not always likable, but admirably sincere."

    And Kirkus is at: https://www.kirkusreviews.com/book-reviews/cate-cameron/just-a-summer-fling/

This is my first book in wide print distribution, so it'll be interesting to see how things shake out. But August is a long way away!

And now Romantic Times magazine has weighed in! This is going to be really interesting - will the reviews have any effect on sales?!?

“Cameron’s latest is a light-hearted, sexy romance that readers will not be able to put down. Her engaging storytelling and the equally engaging characters set within a strong plot are the highlights of this story. Josh and Ashley’s chemistry sizzles, and the tension between them is intense. Solid pacing and easy banter cap off this immensely enjoyable story.” 4 1/2 stars.

I'm curious why you have two different pen names? (Don't answer if you don't want to.)

I would assume that the two different genres (Y/A and slash fiction) almost demand require two different names so as to help create the brand essential to the success of each. Again, this is only my opinion.

Oops, sorry, missed the first comment.

Yes, it's based on branding. Even though my m/m was never all that racy, the subgenre still has the reputation of essentially being erotica, so while it might be okay to mix m/m and m/f romance, it doesn't really work to mix m/m and YA.
