Where have all the kind people gone?

Discussion in 'The Lounge' started by tarnished, Aug 13, 2008.

Today me and my friends were walking to Dunkin/ Donuts, and some guy (in his 20's) almost hit us as he pulled in. We quickly moved out of the way, and just kept walking. he then got out of his car, starts screaming at us, threaening us, and approaches us. I tell him to get lost, and we quickly go inside and get coffees to calm down. We looked out the window and he was in his car waiting for us and staring. So we called the cops and it was handled from there. I was seriously scared. He looked like he was going to my friends ( who are both girls) and I wasn't going to let that happen, so we had to call the police.Im practically still scared.
Where is the kindness in this generation? Why couldn't he just have apolgized for almost hitting us and moving on?
I just can't seem to fathom WHY he would try and hurt us and WHY he couldn't have just apologized- or even not said anything!
As the Black Eyed Peas say:
    Where is the love?

Holy crap. What the hell was that guy thinking? I wonder if he was high or something. I can see him getting mad even though it was his fault, that happens, but waiting for you to come out is something else!

People may not be fundamentally evil- but goddamnit they're trying!

Seriously, the majority of the population are ****s. The good people tend to congregate together (in places such as this site) for shelter from the moronity and jerkousity.

The little happy white cloud world that we all wish existed has never existed nor will it ever. People in some ways commit even less evil than horrible tyrants of the past. It's not the generation, it's just that man is the foulest creature to ever have been spawned on this planet. I find that most people can be fairly nice, it's just when one incident like this happens people tend to think everyone out there is like that. I can count more kind people that mean something to me than unkind people. Just be nice yourself, and deal with the jerks.

That is so begging to be the title of a story. Moronity & Jerkousity

And you are so right, Matt. What I think bugs me most of all, being a nice-guy myself, is the way that the nice people are picked out by the not nice and get used as the grease that keeps everything running smoothly. Ever notice how everyone gets all freaked out when the nice guy gets bent and blows his top?

I'm just saying its much more common now to be faced with a situation such as this than it ever has been before. I can agree, however, that there are a lot of nice people out there. Its just a lot easier to run into people like this.

    @tarnished,
the guy sounds like he has anger disorder and maybe some other disorders. according to the state of the art of medicine, he needs treatment.

personally i don't know if the current 20-something generation is 'evil'. most of my friends are late-20's and older. or they're kids. but i like kids who don't grow up in the prevalent america because there's less chance of them being brats that way.

I actually had something very similar happen to me this weekend. I was driving through the parking lot to my local gaming store (my WoW card had run out :( ) and some guy, one of those white gansta types was parked in the middle of the road in a low rider pick-up. Well, I drive a festiva so I just kept on going. I got out of the car and some other guy started running up to me. Behind him was another low rider pick-up, this time red, half out of a parking spot I had passed and his friend (I would assume) was watching him the whole time. All of the sudden he starts yelling at me, calling me stupid and saying I don't know how to drive. He wasn't even in reverse when I passed him! Anyway, he went off for awhile but I didn't say anything because I was alone and didn't want to antagonize him. Eventually he wore himself out and drove off with his friend.

At least I didn't have to call the cops, tarnished; that's scary as hell. But I found myself wondering the same thing: when did people get so angry?

There seem to be a LOT of rage incidents around Dunkin Donuts shops. They keep popping up on the news. I don't know, but I have to wonder if it's connected with excess caffeine, or caffeine withdrawal.

Fortunately, this incident is far from being the norm. If you're a pedestrian, you have the right of way. Even assholes know that.

    ^Only in the U.S. though ;)

Well that's a generalization, but it's rarer for people in Europe and South Africa and Asia (the places I'm most familiar with outside of the U.S.) to jaywalk, etc., because the cars just simply don't stop.

gignates, in the area Im in a majority of people in their 20s feel the need to be "gangsta" or be looked at as "tough"
i really do know a lot of good 20 year olds, and im not saying that all of them are bad
im saying a lot of people I have met in that age group have left me with a bad impression

I have to say, as a new resident on Cape Cod, the Dunkin Donuts around here is nuts! There has to be at least "two" on every corner and with the heavy flow of vacationers I am not surprised by anything. I am so sorry that we as people can't be more "human" when it comes to dealing with each other.

I agree that a larger group of people are jerks than nice guys. Then the jerks get girls that come to the nice guy to complain about how bad the jerk is but they stay with him? The world we live in is f&^*ed. I get mad, good and mad, about once a year at most, sure I get annoyed and a bit angry but I only ever really show it once, and it's always something well diserved some major insult or injury to me. :) Nice guys finish last and that's how it is always going to be in the world.

On the other hand, what's up with everyone seeking "help" for every little mental problem. The most alot of doctors will do is give you some pills and a bill. Pills are not the awnser, I supposedly have an anger problem and yet I only get upset once in a blue moon. I generally let others do what they want no matter how stupid it is, why argue and get mad about it, let them be stupid.

Chad, I disagree. Most people are nice, but the ones who aren't take up more attention space. Their goal is to be noticed but avoided, so they become a large noise and whirling colors, with an oversized bubble of personal space.

Mostly, I believe, they are panicking that people will see them for the terrified, insecure twitches they are.

Scary story. Thankfully I don't like donuts so it's not going to happen to me. :)

The other night some knob-jockeys (feel free to edit) came along and cut my side mirrors, so now they dangle uselessly and I HAVE TO DRIVE TO WORK! I guess the only question is ... what was the point? Why would someone do that?

I've left my car on the street for the past year with no problems.

Hey I disagree with the NY comment people in NY tend to sound angry but it's has a lot to do with how we talk. Other people form NY will respond in the same way. Like a lot of my posts sound angry to others but its how I talk.

I'd say it was probably the same for Boston but I'm a Yankey fan and that side of me refuses to allow me to defend Boston. LOL J/K

I find it interesting how we always (we meaning the general public.. or humanity, whatever) try to pin our mistakes and our out of control moments on some kind of illness, or mental problem.
I don't know if there actually is a medical reason why people act out and become such complete A-holes, but I certainly hope not. I'd rather have the option to take responsibility for my choices and my actions (instead of it simply being a "condition" of sorts).

As far as where the love has gone, well.. my honest answer is we simply don't have a use for it anymore. What pays better - Yelling at a waitress proclaiming your order is wrong, (for the hope of a free meal), or accepting it as such and respecting it as a simple mistake?

I really don't think it's a matter of people no longer being kind. Rewind back ten years ago, and I'm sure people would have claimed the same thing. Twenty years ago, thirty years ago, too.

Fact is, people in general are just jerks, lol.

It's horrible what you went through, though. It's insane that there are jerks crazy enough to blame you for something so trival that also just happens to be their fault. That actually really pisses me off. I probably would have opened my mouth to the jerk, and set him off further, but that's just so horribly rude and nonsensical.

I get it all of the time at work. Obviously it pales to your story, but sometimes I'll get customers crashing into me with their shopping carts, and then carrying on without a word as if nothing happened. Most of them give you a dirty look too, as if it's YOUR fault they somehow managed to hit you, stationary and immobile, on the side lines you, with their cart, LOL. It baffles me. And it's so rude. I don't care if I'm an employee, I'm a humanbeing first and foremost, and I deserve common courtesy. If I bump into someone, I always apologize and say excuse me, no matter WHO it is. It just irks me so much how little manners people in general have. And it isn't as if I'm big, lmao, I'm freaking 5'1" and pretty pathetically small, so it's not as if I'm taking up a lot of their cart pushing space. UGH, now I'm annoyed just thinking about the utter lack of courtesy.

It's not just this generation. ;)

I was trying to pass someone last night and they floored it to try and stop me. Narrowly avoided a head on collision with oncoming traffic at 75+ mph. If he wasn't driving an old Volvo I would have been forced to drive into the guy and push him off of the road to avoid a fatal crash. Hurray.

Take note: This site has zero tolerance toward bigotry. Although you should read and understand all of the site rules, I will point out two of them:

Under General Forum and Posting Rules:
All posts must be free of illegal or distasteful content, which includes pornography and nudity, posting of copyrighted material, spamming the forum, bumping threads, or flaming/trolling.
    And under Signatures:
Signatures may also not contain text with sexual connotations, racial slurs, vulgarity, or content intended to upset a specific member.
We do not attempt to exhaustively enumerate everything that constitutes distasteful content, but the signature rule certainly makes it clear where we stand on bigotry.

Anyone who violates the spirit of the forum rules will be warned, infracted, or banned, depending on the severity of the violation and any prior disciplinary actions.

If you feel you have been misunderstood, you may request a clarification from any of the moderators. However, you may not demand an explanation or that the specific rule violated be pointed out. The moderators on this site are members also, and harassment of moderators acting in accordance with their responsibilities will not be tolerated.

My apologies to those here who have had no part in any activities that necessitated this reminder.

It is horrible that you had to go through such an incident and felt your safety was comprimised in this kind of situation. It should have been dealt with in a more appropriate manner. People can be a little arrogant and aggressive at times and you were wise to call the police.

But there are a lot of kind people out there. I always stop in the street in my car to let people cross the road safely. More so the elderly or people with children if it isn't raining. If it is raining, I stop to let people cross the road all the time. People appreciate kindness and it helps put a smile on others faces. :) (Someone has to do a good deed where ever possible)
