I said GOLEMS are a Jewish myth I said Adam from the Judeo-Christian scriptures (religion) I don't recall golems ever featuring in actual Jewish scriptures, whether the Torah, the Nevi'im, or the Ketuvim. Edit: I stand corrected, apparently גלמי (golem) was used in the Psalms as "an anmorphous, unformed material" But not as an actual clay creature brought to life by magic

Have you read Feet of Clay by Terry Pratchett? In that book (omitting lots of details for simplicity) golems are an ancient creation, and no one knows how to build more. However, some of the golems are able to create new ones using scraps of themselves to provide the magical impulse to bring the new ones to life. Sounds slightly similar to your "Stele".
