    Hello there people.

Discussion in 'New Member Introductions' started by AceRik, Jul 31, 2008.

    Hey Everybody,

As you can tell by the post i am new to the site, so just having a look round and trying to find my feet.

I did'nt realise there were websites like this around, especially with rules such as 'review before you submit' making sure everybody has an equal opportunity to share knowledge. I Think its a fantastic way of organising things.

I have always been interested in literature but it is only in the past few months when me and a friend began collaborating ideas that it started to become a bit of an addiction!

So... erm a bit about myself :) Well im 21 years of age living in Yorkshire England. Me and a friend are currently trying to fine-tune an idea we had a little while ago, so he will more than likely use my login from time to time to share his own views (Hence the name AceRik - A.c.e R.i.k our initials lol)

Well thats all for now I guess! I'm looking forward to getting to meet everybody on the forum and 'hopefully' help people to develop their work.

    Thanks Guys
    ~Anthony~

Hello Anthony, Welcome to the Writing Forums.

FYI - your friend will need to register his own login. Sharing an account is not permitted under the site rules. Sorry.

Posting your own work should not be the very first thing you do here. It is really worthwhile to see what other people have done to improve their writing, and see if some of it applies to your writing as well. That is part of why we require members to review other members' work before posting their own for review. On the other hand, there are no restrictions, other than content and copyright rules, on showcasing your work in your member blog.

If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well, and be sure to read through the forum rules, too, to avoid any misunderstandings or hurt feelings. Respect for one another is our principal mandate.

As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize reviewing as a critical writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum). See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information.

Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!

Bah... well i suppose he will have to shoulder surf behind me then!

Look at me, i've been here 5 minutes and i've started breaking rules hehe
I'll try be more careful in the future... honest!

Thanks for in the info, im definately going to check out 'Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work?'

I think reviewing other peoples material (or even alot of the time my own) to be a weak point of mine so it will be good to see how other people structure their responses and try and learn from that.

    Thanks again.
