I have found a way to post a tune, but I can't figure how to post a pic on this blog page... any hints
Today is a day much like any other. I'm retired so it's always nice to see other's leave for work. But isn't a pension some form of work in a past tense. Being retired has its drawbacks too. It's almost a license for people to think you've got nothing better to do so let's dump some shit on him. So for the most part I fill my days with chores and assignments and before long the pillow in the back bedroom beckons again. Today I found a moment for praise and now I'm remembering some of my past sins. One thing about being old is I think for the most part you sin less. Sin takes energy and a really good sin takes a ton of youthful energy. Most of the shitty sins I commit nowadays are in my thoughts and not my deeds. But the day is young and some young whipper-snapper may cut me off and I'll have to flip him an arthritic bird. In advance, I ask for forgiveness, like the buddhist monk who prays to the bottom of his shoe in the event he may squish something unknowingly as be walks his path. (this took me less than 15 minutes) time for a bath.
Maybe I should tie my ass to a tree and go into the saloon and have a couple of beers. But there's two things I know about me, two is two few and I would never leave my ass outside. No matter where I go, I always bring my ass along. Simple rules to follow. Do I have all my buttons buttoned, is my fly zipped, do I have some real money on me and am I ok with my breath, Of course, I need my fucking keys, where are my keys? But I'm just going down to the corner store to get some cigs so why don't I just walk. Good, the fresh air will do me good. And besides, if I would smoke in the car everybody that uses the car that I would use to get to the corner and back would get pissy about the smell. They would ask questions like, did you pick up a hitchhiker again, or something more simple like, are you sneaking again? Ok, this is really not a blog, I was just playing with my time. If you got this far, there's more to the story. Encourage me.
I just gifted myself a new/used portable typewriter. When I left the Army in '69 it was time to get serious about my life and get an education. I took many literature courses to somehow ease the transition from soldier to civilian. I bought a nice portable Underwood and would do all my essays and poems with that. It was fun and aggravating especially when making a typo halfway through a page. Anyway, what I want to do now as somewhat of a Lenten exercise is to write a poem or a few paragraphs daily from March 6-April 21 on a portable typewriter. I purchased a used Smith Corona on ebay and it should be coming in any day. My question to you folks out there...does anybody still use a manual typewriter to do their writing. I do a daily journal and I find that my writing is different when I use a pen and paper than when I use something more mechanical. Do any of you find this to be true.
