Politics and Nationalism

  1. The Devil Resigns

Today, one beautiful thing has happened. President Pervez Musharraf has resigned! And he is being such a loser about it. He's like, 'I'm doing this not because I'm being accused, because I don't want to insult the parliament', loser boy. :p But hey, I'm happy he jumped off the plank once and for all. The dollar prices fell by 1 rupee and 10 paisa during his speech! Wow, coincident or what? Though now we have a vulgar Zardari to deal with, one dog is better than two. :D
  2. Happy Independence Day

Today is INDEPENDENCE DAY! 61 years ago, on 14th August 1947, a new nation was coined in the history of this world. PAKISTAN The word Pakistan as such means: 'Land of the pure'. Also, it is said to represent different areas of Pakistan: P = Punjab (my province :D) A = Afghania (NWFP) K = Kashmir I = (Conjunction) S = Sindh TAN = Balochistan Our founder is Mohammad Ali Jinnah, a.k.a. Quaid-e-Azam, who has given us some very important advices. "Unity, Faith, Discipline."...
  3. Slave country once more

Looks like USA is going to prove to us after all as to how much they can stoop. They've already entered with their armies in FATA ( a part of a province in Pakistan), and are quite sure they can simply round up the remaining country no problem. They believe it's their 'right' to take over the country by military - right my foot. I am so willing to walk up to the future president of USA and spit on his face for once. Then again, I don't think they've done anything too evil. They been...
  4. Bombings in Pakistan

There have been two bombings (in the sense of the word, perhaps more) in my hometown, or my perfect city Lahore, which is seemingly now a court for the catch-the-bomb game of stupid politicians. One bombing took place in the house of a lawyer, not sure of his name, while another bombing took place in FIA (Federal Investigation Agency) building, in which around 50-60% of the employees had arrived, at least 500 people in the workforce. People from the nearby buildings and from those inside...
  5. Election results are out

...almost. From what I have gathered, the Punjab assembly (the province where I live) is being held by PML-N with 95 votes, but not wholly. It would seem they would have to form a coalition with PPP who have lagged behind with 65 votes, with no other party in between. As for the National assembly, we are guessing PPP, or PML-N, or both in coalition, depending on what the authorities come up with. I'll add to this once I get something. Legend: PML-N= Pakistan Muslim League (Noon)...
  6. Elections 2008...NOT US!

Pakistan is also going to have elections this February. Which is quite an entertaining situation, seeing that I'm in the prime age of curiosity, where my interests lean towards politics and religion, and USA and my own country constitute the majority of my political interests...I must say, I'm having fun! However, unlike the otherwise friendly politics in USA, Pakistan is running through a political crisis since it was born and after turning 60 last year, the situations have only gone...
  7. Benazir Is Dead

Yes, she's dead. Nothing good, I don't curse people who claimed to be good because I don't really know what was up her sleeves. But this is yet another political tactic. Her death means Mushy will delay the elections. And perhaps my school too, but that's not important. But the elections are so delayed. Moreover, this means strikes and suicidal attacks all over the country. They have already started in Lahore and Karachi, and it doesn't look very nice. For those who care, she died by an...
  8. Martial Law and Bombings to follow

For those who haven't yet heard a rant about my country from me, look at my location. Pakistan has had unstable politics for a while now, and for the fun part it isn't improving. The country has been put on emergency, and the news channels from ALL OVER THE WORLD including local channels have been cut off. News Websites (at least local ones...we haven't bothered checking whether our IP is no longer accessing the international ones...) have been brought down and the only news we get is...
  9. Dreams are a sin

Lost and Forgotten Are those eyes full of pain Blood streaming down The face of disdain Piercing me finally I've realized my destiny With no hope to wish for My soul has been killed in a scene of gore The quoted part is from a I poem I wrote. When writing it, I was in the same feeling as I am in right now. I just wonder why I'm even writing this blog. I should be studying. It's the purpose of my life, right? I don't know if this is the same rant every other teenager sings when...
  10. TEN things which make Pakistan the best country to live in!

Seriously, the title says it all. You guys may think it's a hellhole, but no, it's really a nifty place :) at least in some ways which are addressed below. Feel free to feel envious - it's natural. 1) I think this counts alot - no need to do chores! In a normal middle class home, you can have a sweeper and gatekeeper and a cook very nominally! For the upper middle class, a driver or two is no big either. You'll get plenty practice of shouting and learn an entirely new language - of bad...
  11. The beginning of slavery - the end of hope

My country is a memorable place - the only country in the history of the world as well as it is known, to have gained independence in such difficult ways. US is a different story - they were a majority and no partition as such took place. But Pakistan was made with pain and struggle. Not a piece of cake. And today when I look outside the windows, I sigh out in despair and ask myself - is this the beginning of a new era...of slavery? No, I'm not kidding. It's so true. Look at us. No...
