Introduction to Jung and Fairy Tales

  1. I ran across these amazing videos, actually part of a course on Jungian psychology. The course isn't complete yet, it's being added to bit by bit. But this does an excellent job of explaining the concepts and especially of ironing out some of the more difficult aspects of Jung's writing and of von Franz's, which can get pretty opaque at times. It's incredible to have this explanation at a level anyone can follow, with questions from students and good solid answers given. I wish I had found something like this years ago when I launched into my Jung studies.

It's an 'introduction' specifically to the theories on fairy tales—in order to really get what's being discussed you'd need to first watch some of the earlier videos which I'm sure explain Jung's basic theories in detail. EDIT—actually he does a good job of explaining each Jungian concept as you need to know it throughout the video. I think most people could get it without needing much if any prior study. And with Jung there's always that necessity to occasionally just move forward without fully understanding some things—they'll get filled in later.

I'm about a third of the way in on this video now, and it's clarified a number of formerly very knotty ideas for me.

Plus I find I need to read or watch videos every so often or some of the ideas start to slip away into the memory hole and I drift away from all this Jungian thinking.
