My first blog

By Keki · Dec 17, 2011 · ·
  1. Hey guys, I just recently finished VCE (Year 12) and performed worse than I expected. One of the main reasons is that my writing blatantly sucks. I got a study score of 21 for English, the average is 25 for most university courses with 50 being the highest study score you can achieve.

I remember when I was in an English class in year 10, one of teachers said that "you compose essays everyday when you speak..etc" and I guess she was right. I want to sound articulate and knowledgeable when I talk and when I write. So in hopes of improving my speech and writing I've joined a writing forum where I can learn from others who have a strong passion for writing and the English language itself.

yo dude when it comes to writing its just practice like anything else. Personally I always admire originality and being genuine. And if you want to sound intelligent and knowledgeable, then my best advice to you is to read a lot and acquire that knowledge firsthand, that way you don't have to try, it'll just come naturally to you. You'll pick up new words and idea's that you can adapt and reiterate in your own words, and perhaps add your own unique twist or insights to. Good luck Keki, welcome to the forums!! =)

I agree with Suhailp - go for authenticity! It'll go a long way with most people and definitely sounds more intelligent and knowlegable than someone 'faking' their way through things. I've got a lot of work to do on my writing as well. I joined a writing forum a year ago and then lapsed until just now. I find that reading and providing feedback helps a lot also. Constructing valuable feedback for others helps me integrate what I am learning about writing. You'll be amazed at how much your writing will improve!
