Pioneering a Magazine

  1. Me and a few friends at my varsity have decided to start our very own magazine/newspaper thing here since it is currently missing from this place which for it's excessively long name and purpose (Limkokwing University of Creative Technology:confused:) doesn't have any kind of campus paper or newsletter. I found this to be quite disturbing and decided we should found one.

The whole team seems o be very enthusiastic about this and it's always something i've wanted to do so it's kinda like a dream come true, well not yet but it's getting there. I can't wait for the first copy of it to roll off the presses later this month. I want the very first one:D.

We had our first official meeting last week and everything seems to be headed in the right direction. I myself have been given charge of sports and tech/gaming related stories which falls right in line with what i'm interested in. I think it's also good that we have a healthy mix of people from other countries as it brings a fresh perspective to any new ideas we may have. The only thing that's stone walling us at the moment is the title of the thing. I personally liked Souji's Monthly Review but it didn't get much votes. It's kinda tough naming the thing especially give the long title the theatre and drama club gave themselves (The Limkokwing University of Creative Technology Theatre, Language and Writers' Club... abbreviated to LUCTTLM:eek:) Kinda leaves one at a loss on how to make the title work without making obtruse and difficult to read. I'd envisioned something in the vein of "The Informer" but that sounds a bit cheesy to me. I'm sure we'll work it out somehow though. As it stands i have a big banner (although it'll be photoshoped with deadly precision later) waiting to be placed as my avatar,

Wow, congrats on the montly paper, do keep us posted when it hits and how it is recieved. I'm excited for you. Its something that you can put asm uch effort into it as possible and it'll reward you just as well. (Glad you have a good team on beard, thats what you need).

lol@ Souji's Monthly Review would have sucked for a name! ;)

    Keep it up!

Good luck with the paper. Are you gonna consider outside submission of stories? Or just from the school?

You know what would be really fun, that would possibly get you guy some funds? You should have a writing contest of sort, and charge a reading fee for each entry. You could get some money, and then you could print the winning stories/articles. Just a thought.

    Sounds exciting.

    Here are some possible names:

    The Daily Nugget
    The Creative Spectator
    The Panorama (or Panorama)
    The Boomerang (or Boomerang)
    The Creative Universe

or for the lulz: The Yapping Claptrap

Go for the lulz. School papers are almost invariably not worth reading and a little humor will go a long way.

@Speedy - i found Souji's monthly review as quite a creative title. I came up with it in a moment of pure genius, but to be fair at the same time i had also gulped down a glass of sour milk:(

@becca - this idea did com up actually, its one of the ways in which we wish to generate funds to print the actual thing

@marina - FYI the "The Yapping Claptrap" recieved a surprising 75% vote when i mentioned it at a recent meeting. Alot of the other members seem to be thinking that if the paper is too serious it will never sell well. So credits to CDRW for that idea:D
