We're of two minds, say two great men

  1. Iain McGilchrist on his new book The Matter with Things: Our Brains, Our Delusions and the Unmaking of the World: "The devastatingly reduced vision of the world that we now have—this reductive, materialist ideology—which is absolutely not compelled on us by science, as people seem to think, by science or by reason. It's a version of the world which is very much consonant with the view that one of the hemispheres of the brain—the left hemisphere—takes. And we shouldn't be paying too much attention to what it has to say, except for the business of getting our daily bread."

His earlier book was The Master and his Emissary: The Divided Brain and the Making of the Western World

A brief clip from one of the Bible lectures, showing how Jordan Peterson reasons out the wisdom contained in Biblical passages:

I try, and I try, and I try to listen to Peterson; there's nothing he says that changes anything I think. I'm constantly overcome with jealousy when I read people proclaiming he is some savior for them. I wish I could feel that same. He speaks as if no one is listening, a mental monologue that is rarely interrupted or challenged by his students. I do the same in my own mind, and have no more patience for his thoughts. He treads carefully by his own admission, and I find he treads too carefully to convince me of anything.

Ah, sorry. I shouldn't have posted. I wasn't in the right frame of mind.

Well, he treads carefully (giving lots of room for 'outs')... until he decides to be sensationalist to keep the business moving.

He had an almost perfect balance between educator and entertainer 2-3 years ago, and has since slid towards the latter far too much for my liking,

I'm glad to see he seems to be all healed up and got his voice back, and he seems to be through the weird 'angry' period he's been in recently, since joining Dailywire. And I always prefer when he's on a subject I really like such as here or in his Biblical lectures. Very excited for his upcoming new series on Exodus! We've been waiting for that for what seems like years now.

But in this video of course Peterson isn't the main focus, it's his guest. And I'm always happy to see when he's got a guest he admires enough to let them talk rather than cut them off frequently. I could see Dr. McGilchrist get annoyed once or twice when he did cut in a bit ("How did we get on this subject (it's got nothing to do with my new book)?" :p
