Electricity? Bah! Who needs it?
Well this week’s been eventful. We had a power issue at home. Not a black out per say, it was something more unusual, granted our house is old. Anyway, during this mishap I managed to focus on my writing without the distractions of Facebook messages, new posts on this forum, solitaire scores and music blaring at me. It almost felt like I was reconnecting with my inner writer, if that makes sense. I was able to sit down and write up some character profiles which I’d been meaning to do and also write down some major scenes that I’d had rattling around in my brain. Not only do I have a better understanding of my characters, but I’m also more confident about where my story is heading. I’d forgotten how simple and freeing it is to just sit back with a pen and notepad and write, without technology surrounding me. That’s not to say my writing was completely dependent on a working computer. It’s just being able to write on a real piece of paper with a pen feels far more satisfying, to me, then typing. There's something raw and stimulating about shuffling through pages of scribbled notes and physically being able to figure out how everything connects. It’s comforting to know that if I’m not near a computer my writing won’t suffer
