In the grand scheme of things, the atheistic view of death is a lot meaner than eternal bliss or reincarnation. On the other hand, it's a lot nicer than being tortured forever for worshipping the wrong god.

The traditional concept of Hell is far more horrible than the oblivion of atheism. It is a vicious doctrine, and I point it in the face of any fundamentalist who calls atheism amoral or wonders how my mind can bear the burden of skepticism.

Of course, there are Christians who reject the idea of Hell, and I don't have a problem with them. But the concept itself is truly reprehensible. An omnipotent being who chose to subject us to eternal torment would make any human sadist look benevolent in comparison.
