Internet "PTSD"?: Drama is not "Trauma"

Get over it. Best 3 words anyone ever said to me.

A couple of others to remember:

My mom used to tell me "If that's the worst thing that ever happens to you, you'll be alright".

Another one: You're not the first (and only) one to go through this.

It is too easy to dismiss anything less than combat or exposure to extremes as unworthy to be considered as PTSD. What does the term PTSD mean? Well, it's simple really Post= after. Trauma= some form of psychological shock. Stress= influences that bring an individual close to their limit of tolerance. Disorder= something is not working right.
So someone is exposed to a trauma and thereafter they suffer from difficulties.
One person's teasing is another person's trauma. Who are we to judge what will shock an individual to the point where they are left with the sort of dysfunction that has a profound negative impact on their life and relationships.
The whole thing was first identified in veterans sure, before that it was called shell shock and before that it was called cowardice. We now know that sexual abuse/assault, violence and in some cases abandonment are certainly trauma events that leave this kind of scar. Road accidents can. Exposure to casual violence can. Loss can. Exposure to age-inappropriate sexual information can. We learn more all the time
It is our understanding of the impact and nature of trauma that needs to grow, not our ability to correctly label it.

I understand what you're saying. The reason I'm attracted to this article is because it helps me remember that something may not be as serious as I think it is. It's a reminder to me.

I have to agree with you. There are events on the internet that still bother me a whole helluva lot & I can't seem to get over it.

In this case, labeling is probably wrong. But you have to admit, sometimes internet drama, whatever it is, is certainly comedy. :)

I never trust anyone who communicates with me solely through the internet. Does anyone else? Surely not! I don't know about you but I'm a grown up. :)

This is what I'm thinking TODAY.

It all depends on the frame of mind you're in. Today I have nothing to stress about. It's Friday all day and all night and I have nothing to do except what I want to do. I don't have to get up early tomorrow so I can have a few drinks tonight. I'm looking forward to that! Eg: I'm trying to keep the internet as pleasurable as possible. I enjoy website participation most of the time - when I don't let stuff get to me.

I had this thought earlier this week:

When the internet bothers me I need to remember why I originally starting using it. I loved everything about it - the way it works, the creativity, the writing, websites, chatrooms. Later on I started really enjoying interacting with other people. Then came romance, sex, fetish exploration, etc. Somehow love and affection and all that other stuff got involved - just about ruined everything! I still don't understand 'love' on the internet. I understand affection and attention and how enjoyable it is from the person/s you care about. But I'm not sure how 'love' plays into that.

I'd like to create my own little internet-habitat - something that makes me happy no matter what. Honestly, that's my goal.

We'll see how far I get with that. :)

Seriously, I don't know what's going on half the time, but I keep my nose clean. When you haven't done anything wrong, you don't have to worry.

Cruel things happen.... I don't know what to say about that.

I would never do to someone else what's been done to me. My conscience is clear.

All the rest is something to laugh about ... on the internet, nothing is real.
