Martial Law and Bombings to follow

By Charisma · Nov 4, 2007 · ·
  1. For those who haven't yet heard a rant about my country from me, look at my location. Pakistan has had unstable politics for a while now, and for the fun part it isn't improving.
The country has been put on emergency, and the news channels from ALL OVER THE WORLD including local channels have been cut off. News Websites (at least local ones...we haven't bothered checking whether our IP is no longer accessing the international ones...) have been brought down and the only news we get is through secondary websites with limited news. That too, only people of the upper middle and elite class - the others used to rely on TV, newspapers, or word of mouth. Of the upper middle and elite class too, who became rich by education and hard work, not corrupting activities - and is interested to read the news. Which shouldn't be more than 5 %.

So yeah, I don't want to see the newspapers being cut off, which at the moment are completely controlled by the government, and perhaps a few bombings here and there. But somehow, even not wanting this doesn't help. Because it inevitable. I don't know if I go to school tomorrow and a bomb blows up, and when my parents question the government, he'll be like, 'Terrorists did it!'. Oh God question him. Blaming innocent people who simply want to devote themselves to God and being the actual terrorist. I'm not talking about Afghanis, I'm talking about simple religious students who don't even know what a gun is. I've met many and it hurts to see them being blamed by Musharraf, and even that George Bush, just because they don't want to be caught doing something worse. I know there are Muslims terrorists, but they're not worse than these politicians. And the only reason they exist is false education or none at all. Anyways, drifting away from the point.

So yeah, this is a rant praying that I live to see the end of emergency in my country (without being raped, deprived of housing and education or kidnapped) and hoping that the innocent lives of the people are not too badly affected. And that some lucky day Pakistan can come clean as well as other Muslim nations where there is no proper law and order and thus Islam is simply terrorism thanks to the ever-irritating media.

Yeah it's all over the Australian news, how Pakistan is in political crisis at the moment.

I hope you're okay, I can't imagine how insane things must be for you and your family presently- I see these things on the news and I can't even come close to comprehending what it's like to not even feel safe in your own country.

Stay safe, I'm thinking of you.

I've been listening to it on the news. With the agreement between Musharraf and Bhutto, I had been hoping that at least the lesser of two evils would be the winner. With this new move though, that pretty much goes out the window.

Try to stay safe, and I'd recommend going out only if you're armed.
    My thoughts are with you.

Thanks you two. It's really lifted a huge burden off me, and I'm glad to know you guys care.

Bah. Weapons aren't allowed in school, Domoviye. But I can always keep a lighter. Hmmm.

I was actually thinking of a knife. They're pretty easy to conceal, and if used wisely can be a nasty surprise.
  5. Charisma
Well. I might as well keep that too. Thank God they're not banned. [For celebrating birthdays in school, they allow knives.]

I didn't realize it was actually that bad, though I haven't been following the news a whole lot. Stay safe and keep us updated.

Hang in there Anthraxx, and if you want, I could smuggle in some news clippings via email ^^
  9. Charisma
That'd be nice, but I don't watch news that often.

As an addition, a local Urdu newspaper called Jang is no longer being published and several houses have been confiscated.

    Updates:
Rallies in FAST and LUMS (Lahore University of Management Sciences). FAST was sealed briefly for an hour or so. My two cousins study in FAST and for now there is no violence. Rumors about a deadly thing to happen on 15th November.

I hope things get better for you and your country Anthraxx. Keep safe!
  12. Domoviye
Well they're letting Bhutto leave her house now. I wonder if that will help ease things, or make them worse.
Anthraxx unless you're very good at moving quickly and running, travel in groups for the next while.

Thanks for the advice and support everyone.

An enterprising company in America is beginning to market Kevlar lined bullet resistant backpacks for students, in response to all of the on-campus shootings over the last few years.

It says a lot about where the world is going.

Freaky. That's all I can say.
