Napoleon Hill and Getting Rich

By paperbackwriter · Dec 18, 2018 · ·
  1. Im late for the party on this guy. Apparently the gold standard for those of us who want to get rich and retire early. The American dream? or is that a cliche?
Of course Ive always wanted to be wealthy and rich. But I wanted it to happen by accident. So I didnt feel guilty for having the desire. I might look down on those whose one desire is getting rich. To think that I might have the same DNA is frightening. Could I be as superficial as that? Reading the classics and the Bible of course doesn't paint a good picture for those who worship money. Better chance threading a camel through an eye of a needle in order to make it Heaven. My father helped the poor all his life. My oldest sibling preached the holiness of the poor. No, I would be betraying my whole family culture if I sold myself to the false god of money honey. I was meant for a higher purpose. Like looking down on Napoleon Hill acolytes. :)
OK well I am at least aware of my own hypocrisy. Im 60 now and more money would be nice. Enable me to travel, join an expensive gym, buy a new car or even upgrade to a better house. Im thinking my partner may have wished I put wealth as my number one priority in life.
I remember how poor my parents were in their final years. Its a bad time to be poor not that any time is good. Being house bound and fretting about wasting too much money on heating in winter for instance. That's kind of hellish and not the way you are supposed to live your last decade. But many older folk do just that. Rich folk can often die lonely I hear you say. Yeah well so can the poor and at least the rich don't fret about affording basic bills.
Here's a dream for you. Work your butt off and retire at 40. How many have achieved that? is it a worthy goal? 45? 50? I guess there are many who achieved the 50 mark. My brother retired at 58 which is the best in our family. He has had a deserved stress free retirement since then. Buying selling and training horses is his passion and that is what he has done since. Plus gorgeous grandchildren. That is what life is all about many would say. Work hard and retire early to blissful freedom.
Im wondering if it is too late for me to take Napoleon Hill seriously. Is 60 too late. How many my age used his book as an inspiration for success? Id be surprised if any did,
