"Capitalize after quotations?" he asked.

  1. Okay. Now I have read a lot misleading information about capitalizing after quotations especially ending in "!" or "?" Does it depend on the action or structure of the following sentence? I am writing a book and I need to finish it...

"Help me!" he yelled, as he fell back.
"Help me!" He yelled and fell back.
"Help me!" he yelled, and ran away.

This is driving me batty..... "Help!" He yelled, because he could not figure it out; or get an answer. lol:redface:
Please respond to me by email too; if you think you have the answer.

There is no need to capitalize after a quotation mark or an exclamation point. :) Hope you get your book done in time.

The first one is correct because what follows the quote in this case is a dialogue tag.

    On the other hand:

"Help me!" She ran away, squealing.

In this case, what follows is not a tag, it is a separate sentence. Capitalization needed in this instance.
