This Year's Reflections

By Jupie · Nov 11, 2018 ·
  1. Life’s themes.

Every year is different. You can’t have the same year twice. I’ve had good years; bad years and I’ve had hard years. The latter are excellent opportunities for growth and laying the foundations for future happier times.

It’s been a good three months since I’ve written anything and I miss it. I will always be a writer at heart. One day I am confident I will be a novelist. Till then, my focus lies in the workplace and development.

After two months away it feels good to be back at Capital One. I don’t say this to win points or to market myself but instead to share what I have learned from life in my twenties. I am a creative person but I do think it’s important to adapt to your environment and where I work is an excellent place for building rapports and sharing experiences. I think wherever you work you need to build social and emotional connections with your colleagues and pioneer a vision that helps solidify some important purpose for that company. Without purpose or meaning your life can feel very directionless and unfulfilling.

In astrology terms this year is the year of the Moon; the character I wrote so much about in my first novel four or five years ago. It’s amazing how much I feel like ‘Moon’ this year; a time for reflection and peace after enduring hard trials. At University I spent so much time trying to find my feet in the world that I never really found a foothold. Now, with much stubbornness and persistence and an onset of health issues I’ve learned it’s possible to trust in flow and let life take you where you need to be. So long as you have a map and a little bit of faith you can literally go anywhere you need to be.

My birthday is the symbol of the mountain climber and my life has definitely unravelled as an interesting climb. I’ve had a tough but meaningful year and now as it draws to a close I find myself on my perch again ready to reflect and to enjoy good seeds that have been sowed. Let’s hope next year, the year of Jupiter, is a jovial and exciting year as it’s supposed to be!
