Twilight?

  1. Okay, so I've heard all the hype about the Twilight book series but I really don't understand all the excitement.

Seems to me that the most enthusiastic fans are just girls swooning over whatshisname. Sure, that's what girls do (not all girls, mind you, but a lot), but I really don't understand why it is so popular!

I haven't read the books. I have absolutely no desire to. But from reading the posts on this website about the series, it would appear they are not even well written. Is this just another teen love story with an unbelieveable twist? Seriously, vampires seem extremely cliche, and the story does not at all make sense to me. Is it really all about the one time they kiss (or however many times) and how desperately they want to be together (I don't know the story, but I would imagine there is some reason at the end they can't)? Or, is it really all about a "cute couple" and how far then can take their love without her getting bitten by him?

I honestly don't know what to make of Twilight. As of now, I can only conclude that it is a played-up fad that has little to no quality. I will be researching it more in the near future; I have an open (if not prejudiced against cliche love stories and vampires) mind about this, so if anyone happens to read and has any opinions they'd like to share, I'd love to talk about it.

Yeah... Twlight is terrible. It isn't written well, and it is certainly not worth any research. I say ignore the fan girls (God knows they're annoying) and move on from it. I would like to say proudly that I am a teenaged girl, but I have a higher criteria for books.

I felt like Meyer didn't want to write a couple of teenagers having sex--which is okay, I appluad that. The problem is that the entire story seems to be based on sexual tension. Bella doesn't fall in love with Edward because he's got a great sense of humor, or because they have anything common; she falls for him because he's sexy. (So Meyer would have us believe.) Point being, if you're going to have a romantic story, whether or not it's based on sex, there has to be chemistry beyond "He's really hot!" If you don't have anything else in common, it stops being believable.

    Wow, truth!

Wow, that totally makes sense. Not to mention the fact that as soon as I hear it's a vampire and a human falling in "love" that's pretty much a turnoff for me.

I read the books, and I agree they're not that well written and the story is so cliche that, well, it gets old. But I'll admitt that when Twilight first came out, I had a sick fasination with it, because well, I just did. Now that it's gotten so popular, I'm just like, uh, wow, really? It's really not even that great, and if you think about it, most of these older people that read the book were probably HP fans, and now that that series ended they just needed something to, grasp onto to feed they're fix of the supernatural world. My opinion at least...

Mm, that's certainly how it could be! I always forget same author for both Harry Potter and Twilight. Course, I've never read Harry Potter.

... they're not the same author.....
