What do you think? :)

Being an Atheist makes life more exciting. Not believing in a God makes me think otherwise about our mere existence on this planet. My imagination is free to roam any explanation that I almost always deem impossible anyway. It's thoughts, such as this, that inspire me to write. Impossibilities in this world make a story all the more exciting. I think that by forcing life down to being ruled by one or more Gods restricts the imagination from adding in the impossible. Impossible is interesting. :)

I'm Christian and my life is still exciting and my imagination is pretty crazy.
but hey, if that's what you think. I'm cool with it ^^

If you're an atheist then by definition you deem the existence of God to be an impossibility...if you think impossibilities in the world make a story all the more exciting, would then even toying with the mere existence of God to be exciting by this logic?

It's not that i'm an atheist or a christian, it's just that your logic seems a bit messed up for me. Believing in God is totally irrelevant when it comes to using your imagination anyway. Religion does set down parameters by which a person lives their life yes, but this should not inhibit a writer in what they write about. Makes no sense to me

I agree with LaGs, being a Christian influences the way I live, but it doesn't give me any less imagination or less ability to make up impossible stories.

I totally understand what all three of you are saying. I wrote this at 1am, my logic is all over the place.
Trying to put it another way, part of being Christian means you do not question the existence of God, right? So, surely that means writing about a way of life that isn't influenced by God is something you wouldn't do?
Hmm, I've really confused myself. I feel a fool. I'm not the closed mind type, but I have angled this with a closed mind. I apologize. :)

well logic definitely sounds ten times more boring than religion when i think about it :p

but then if i think, i'm being logical.

    but if i'm being logical , i'm...

    i'm...

    ahhhhhhhhhhhh :p

i wouldn't even think about all that crap, LaGs is right in her own throat-stomping way, lol. it all depends on your own preference. if somethings shoved at you, aside from bags of money, chances are your going to hate it. all the happiness and fun you get out of life will depend largely on how you look at it

Christian writers can write about non Christian characters, if that's what your saying...o_o
And I agree with Mugen =D

I agree that religion and writing is a tricky subject to address. I have been gratified to see an improvement in quality of "christian fiction" over the past few years. It used to be very much like melodramatic moralized romance, and now it usually has better settings, more realistic plot lines and protagonists who experience real conflicts as opposed to silly little flimsy conflicts that are easily resolved by a simple conversation.

I don't think, however, that faith or lack thereof is necessarily related to your imagination. The only imaginative (or should I say "fantasy") realms that are sometimes out of bounds are writing erotic fiction or horror. I think, though, that if you are interested in imagining the origins of the universe a little bit different than the book of Genesis, then go right ahead, and have some fun with it. It's ok to create new worlds and new scenarios.

Again, just as a final point (assuming that I'm making one), I would just see your atheism as a personal choice, but not necessarily one that can make your writing more imaginative. It might create a stereotype about Christianity/religion in your mind that you don't necessarily want to operate on, especially if you're trying to avoid stereotypes people frequently make about atheists. Personally, I'm cool with that choice, as long as you're being true to your own ideas and thoughts, which it seems like you are. :)

Hope you don't feel ganged up upon. I am really not trying to criticize in a discouraging way, so I hope you don't feel discouraged for voicing your opinion. It prompted an interesting discussion, anyway. :)
