Why I'd live in Dover, Kent, England...

    LOL, with the rails :D

Are you considering moving to Scotland? I, personally, would prefer to visit Scotland or Ireland I think. My mom and stepdad went on their honeymoon and both are lovely. I don't mind the cold, lol (NY gets pretty dang cold).

I like living in Kent for that aspect of being near France. Lots of people around here go to France on day trips to stock up on booze. :p

Well, I can't move now, may not be in a few years, but when I'm older, I want to spend a few years in the UK and I'm torn between Scotland and England. :>

Come to think of it, railings would make the cliffs not pretty.

    Keep them out!

lol, I'm torn too. My mom is Scottish and English, while my dad is full Irish. So, I have many places I want to visit someday. I do want to go to Edinburgh and Loch Ness first, though. :D

Ar the white cliffs of Dover, never been but I imagine it's beautiful. Hope you make it one day.

    It's top-coats warmer than Scotland.
But 'Bonnie Scotland' takes some beating frae aul that.

I think the English channel is only 22miles wide, so practice your breast stroke and you may not need a boat.

Dover's nice, but these days its a little bit of a ghost town. Most of the activity there is tourists either coming to see the cliffs, or passing through to France. The recession took something of a sledgehammer to it.

Still, it's well worth a day trip :) Very beautiful part of the country. And no, no rails. Possibly a polite notice that jumping off can be harmful, but nothing more.

That made me lol. Do you really need a notice? Looks pretty self evident I would think.

With all the over zealous health and safety rules and regulations in Britain to-day, the Local Authority is probably just covering its own back.

On a TV programme, a couple of years ago, the presenter and a guest had to wear safety goggles and industrial mitts to play a game of conkers. Health and Safety?

A school stopped the childrens' race, that had gone on for decades if not centuries, all because the children dressed as monks and wore loose fitting robes tied with string, the school head was afraid that whilst running they may trip on the long gown and hurt themselves. Health and Safety?

    I kid you - not!

Wow. I thought we were bad. I think we still believe in survival of the fittest though, at least more than that... lol. If you know what I mean ;)

I've been to Dover, and it was very nice, but not really much to see. I took a ferry to France from there--some place that began with a C. Also not much to see.

We, of course, would have loved to go to Paris, but we had little time and less money! (College students)

I adore England, however, and would move to Oxford for the following reasons:
--a library with a full selection of Alfred Hitchcock videos
    --The Bodleian library (just wonderful!)
    --Fresh pasties
--Deli sandwiches in a variety of delicious and inventive flavors!
    --pubs and hard cider
    --cobblestone
--Mint Aero bars. Haven't had any in ages!!! (As a matter of fact, not since I left England!)

    Calais?

And yea, Oxford is beautiful, it's my favourite city (that I've been to) in the UK, with Durham a close second. We got a tour around some of the colleges of Oxford when we were applying to universities and they are just breathtaking - some of them were used for the filming of Harry Potter

I've been to Dover before, but only to get the ferry across to France, so I don't really know what it looks like (it was night), but the photos always look pretty.
