I am a freelance proofreader who is constantly learning more and more things about the English language. It seems there's almost always another obscure rule that I've never had to deal with that requires more research on my part. I find it fascinating (and slightly frustrating) that so many English rules are fluid and constantly changing. That's what makes forums like these so useful for me, especially when my CMOS is being especially cryptic.
I enjoy my job immensely, and I feel lucky that people take a chance on me to help their novels be as good as they can (and should) be. I feel that writers have a duty to devote themselves to their story, and that can result in some missed errors and forgotten rules. But that's okay because I'm here to help!
