    Hi, I'm Mike.

I joined this site because I love creating worlds, people and events and wanted to learn how best to express my ideas in fiction writing. It's a lot harder than I thought, but I'm enjoying it.

My current project is a piece of dystopian fiction. I very much enjoy the genre, though it has to stay grounded for me and that's where my novel is hopefully headed. I'm not into fantasy or extreme sci-fi (I like to read it, but I'm not interested in writing it). I'm interested in exploring the interplay between the dysfunctional or unusual, but seemingly reasonable and plausible. Kafka, Orwell's 1984, Philip K. Dick (the staples of good dystopia), that sort of thing.

If you have any author recommendations or ideas/resources for this sort of writing, I'd appreciate any thoughts!

I have academic/professional work published. My creative genius remains as yet undiscovered :p

This is the stupidest thing I've ever read ... You keep using words like 'Pasghetti' and 'Momatoes'. You make numerous threatening references to the UN, and at the end you repeat the words 'Screw Flanders' over and over again... - The Simpsons, Episode 229
