Discussion in 'Word Mechanics' started by SuperVenom, May 22, 2013.

So come on how many people re read their MS to find that the word 'the' has been replaced with 'teh'...or am i the only one.

I cannot for the life of me spell that word without putting the e in the middle... thought it was only me

Mine isn't 'teh'; mine is you when it it should be your. Also complete words missing, usually small mechanical words like conjunctions and articles.

it's just a 'tic' of the fingers, or hiccup of the brain when connecting to them...

Actually, if you're ten-finger typing, this maybe doesn't happen, because you do left-hand, right-hand, left-hand to type 'the'. It's the easiest kind of word to type. The one that gets ME every time is "Scotland" (where I live.) I keep typing Socltand. GRRRR...

I sometimes have to write technical manuals. I need the word "function" a lot, and it keeps coming out "funciton." Pronounced FUN-sit-on, I guess. Sounds like an inflatable bouncy kids' toy. :)

I rarely get this, and when I do it's purely because I'm distracted. For me, at least, it's purely a concentration thing.

My spell checker catches it. I think it's mostly caused by my two brain-halves operating at different rates. The let hand is faster than the right. ('t' and 'e' are keyed on the left, 'h' on the right.) I have similar problems with other words as well.

Blame the qwerty, and the fact our fingers are controlled by more than just the conscious parts of our brains.

My fingers type '-toin', '-soin' etc, as well as 'teh'. I also can't seem to consistently get the 'r' on the end of 'your'. But what's really weird is, I often type 'is' when my brain is thinking 'if'.

I hate it when this happens. I have a character called "Jamie" and for some strange reason it always turns into "Jaime" at first. It's uncanny. I even misspelled it here too. Had to check it twice before posting... I've even considered changing the character's name to Jaime.

Also I always hit the space bar too early when I'm writing the word "and". The result is always like this. "Me an dmy friend..."

I've never misspelt "the" that way, but I misspell hundreds of other words lol. It's often not so much a misspelling as it is the wrong word. I'd type "they" instead of "there" or "can't" instead of "don't" or something like that. Or perhaps "can" instead of "can't"

And of course, "can;t" is a common one for me.

But I have a habit of re-reading everything I ever post, so I nearly always catch all my mistakes. Sometimes I can't be bothered to change it if it's very minor, but often I do, even if it's just changing the "a" back to an "e". I just can't stand bad spelling.

I might connect the letters to the following word like "th eman said" because of fast typing. More likely I'll miss a letter on the end or beginning rather than mixing the letters up.

The left hand is racing with the right hand.

Fortunately, Word auto-corrects this by default. Doesn't help when posting, though.

For some reason I have a huge problem with me/my. My fingers frequently swap them, especially when I'm writing emails. Unfortunately, my browser spell check can't catch that one.

I get little brain farts like earlier I was writing something about a fire hose and hoSe was spelled hoZe. I looked at my screen and was like "why did I just do that?'

I have this problem with numbers too, 69 becomes 96. I was having money transferred from one bank account to another and I reversed the last two digits of my account number fortunately the bank sent me a form to sign and I noticed my mistake. I now check numbers over and over again. I thought it was an age thing.

I do this. I'm a ten finger touch typist but my typos are crazy. I try to go too fast I think. My hands cannot keep up with my brain and there you go. 'adn', 'teh', and the one that gets me the most often is 'hroses'. I joke that I have dyslexic fingers... which might be offensive to some but I promise it's not menat [SEE!] that way.

    Edit; it's not age. I'm 18 :)

Lately my problem word had been "pounding". Every time I go back over the draft it shows up as "punding".

There are few words I really have trouble with. However, I do have a very annoying habit of messing up, so I'll go back to fix it, only to make the SAME mistake, then repeat that cycle several times. It's rather infuriating, to be honest. Makes me want to go back to one-finger typing. At least then I didn't make as many mistakes and typos. I do have trouble with some odd ones-namely, accidentally. That one constantly kicks my ass. Sometimes definitely, though I've gotten MUCH better at it now. I know how to spell both of them, I just can't seem to type them without some degree of annoyance hitting me.

I tend to add a "g" to the word within. So I created an auto-correct rule to change withing to within. Argh!

Yep, I get this all the time, although Word's auto-correct manages to clear them up for me. Seems like I just can't avoid the right-left-right finger-fall as I type.
