I uninstalled Adobe Media Player. I also used adwcleaner (software number 6) and it found some stuff that all 5 other programs never caught. I hope this is the end of my problems. LOL. Thanks again for your help.

I just scanned in safe mode using adwcleaner and it caught a .js file.
That conduit company is sneaky.

Malware Bytes just gave me a warning while I was on this site.
Here's what is part of what's in the log:
    Malicious Website Protection, IP, 23.92.30.56, shoe.bestcxo.com, 51724, Outbound, C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe

I don't know exactly what it means but I think I'm going to have to stop coming here. Is the problem really just with me? The software Malware Bytes blocked out an ad on here...replaced it with a warning notice.
Bye everyone. I will miss you.
How do I delete this account?

Here do this first. But anytime you ever download something, always make sure to look at what you are accepting to download before just hitting accept. That is where you got that toolbar from.

I had downloaded the wrong skype a while ago. I've run 6 software programs to try and get rid of remnants of conduit (see above posts). I just installed chrome but it came with conduit and that keybar so maybe I downloaded the wrong chrome... or it reinstalled when I installed chrome...?

Nope when you installed Chrome you must have clicked to import bookmarks and toolbars. Conduit is the toolbar/virus/popup problem.

I've gone through the extensions and add-ons for both Internet Explorer and Firefox. They aren't showing anything abnormal. I've even reset both of these. Twice. I've scanned my computer with 6 different software in safe mode.

I did all of the things mentioned in those articles the night I discovered that I downloaded Skype from the wrong place (I clicked on the first skype that came up because I thought it was at the top of the list for a reason...it should be illegal to do that to people). I'm sure I haven't missed a step. Oh well, I guess it's good that I came to this site or I'd be obvious to the fact that I am still infected by conduit. I will probably have to do a full restore. *cringe* At least I downloaded chrome from the right place (but now I've uninstalled it).

Unless a download comes from Majorgeeks.com, Cnet.com, or the official page of the company, don't download it.

It might have been cnet...the name sounded trustworthy. Anyways, I should have looked for the Skype site.

    So far I've scanned with:
    • Norton 360
    • Malware Bytes
    • Super Antispyware
    • Hitman Pro
    • Anvi smart defender
    • Adwcleaner (which caught some more conduit and spring smart files)
    • I tried installing chrome which got hijacked by keybar and conduit.
I just finished scanning my computer with Spyhunter 4 and it found 26 threats (it found this new thing called WeDownload Manager so now conduit and spring smart have company).

If I have to go through 7 softwares then I'm starting to think the issue is not solvable that way. I don't want spend $40 on this problem (I already wasted money on Hitman Pro). I think I'm going to prepare to do a full restore of my computer. (insert swear words here)

You realize that with all those programs on your computer, sometimes when you scan with one program it gives a false positive of a virus from the other programs.

I don't know about false positives..... I'm getting tired and stressed. I removed Superantispyware and Anvi Defender from my computer (both of them had caught conduit and springsmart in the past and apparently deleted all quarantined files when I uninstalled them). Hitman was catching sqlite files but nobody told me if these files are dangerous so I haven't removed hitman yet. I installed Malwarebytes and it came up with that warning when I was on this site (it replaced an ad with a warning box). Someone sent me instructions so I installed adwcleaner which was mentioned in the article. I installed chrome (as recommended) and it got hijacked by conduit and keybar so I assumed that there were still files on my computer. I installed spyhunter and it found 26 files.

Your Chrome didn't get hijacked. When you imported your bookmarks and toolbars you basically told your computer to put that conduit on Chrome too.

I don't want to come across as a jerk when telling you this, but if you can afford it, just have someone that knows more about computers fix it for you, then let them tell you the one, best protection program to keep and do not download any other ones. Also, when you download anything else you need to be more careful not to accept any 'tag along' downloads that may come with them. Adobe always tries to add Norton's on to its downloads. You simply make sure the little box to accept downloading Norton's is unclicked. The same goes with any other programs.

As I've said before, I run the free Avast and have for maybe two years, and I haven't had any problems at all.

I've heard about companies that offer remote services but they charge over $100.00. All those top software companies can't get rid of it conduit/spring smart so it's probably best to full restore. I don't think you're a jerk. I shouldn't have been so careless with Skype but it had been a long time since I downloaded anything and I just hate legal stuff so I click click and clicked right through it...I am an idiot. STUPID STUPID STUPID. It's interesting that you mention Adobe. I use Indesign, Illustrator and Photoshop. I'm not sure what you mean about Adobe adding Norton's stuff...

Almost every Adobe download includes a Norton anti-virus trial version. Adobe Reader, Adobe Flash, etc.

I already have Norton...I don't think I've ever installed that twice.

Lol. No, what you should do is choose ONE reliable programme and uninstall all the rest of them. All you're doing is cluttering up your computer and its memory, meaning your computer performance is slower than it needs to be, the hardware needs to work harder to make everything work. Overall it's a bad idea. What you should do is get researching and educated on this stuff if you're so worried, but don't fall for the trap of paranoia as many people do regarding computers, simply because they know - or feel they know - so little. Fear is usually a lack of knowledge, but a lack of knowledge is easily remedied.

In my case, I'm just lucky that I can live with my lack of knowledge cus I can always fall back on my husband hahaha :D

In fact, if anything, Norton Virus isn't meant to be very good in the first place, and it does many updates and installation of unnecessary things that only slows down your computer but does not much more (as well as using up the internet, slowing it down). It's the first thing my husband uninstalls if it comes with any laptop, actually.
