I think Sydney, mentioned above, is a good mean girl name and names like Giada seems fitting too. As for Jade, the only Jade I knew was the opposite - she'd grown up dirt poor with a single mom and was a real sweetie!

For whatever reason, I was never a target for mean girls, but I went to school with one by the name of Dionne.

I've never met a Brittany, never met a Courtney either but that works.

My story has a school in a small village in the woods. In the city they have schools that are a mix between computer and actual classes.

And though it's a century into to future, I purposefully built in a delay in tech advances. They had to reestablish themselves on a new planet and it took 40 years to get there.

Solara, I like it. Not sure it's conceited enough. Maybe I can tweak it.

Perhaps in contrast to some simpler names might do the trick.

Another vote for Sydney. Sound's like a basic bitch name.

Might just have been a big franchise when I was younger, but I immediately think Sidney Prescott; given that it is a similar situation.

    Maybe something like this:
"Sydni, with an i. Everyone knows that's not how you spell Sydney," Brin said under her breath.
    Hmmmm.

Anywhere that adolescents are forcibly gathered, with no escape and not much to do, the horrors of high school will happen.

Sydney is not a very attractive name is the problem, because it sounds like Sid.

If you want something more conceited, I'd use Ashleigh over Ashley, but let me tell you iv never met an ugly or even plain Ashley.

"Ashleigh with an eigh," Brin said rolling her eyes. "It's not good enough to just spell it Ashley with an ey,"

Tiffany or Nicky (short for Nicole). It could have been just my part of California in the 80's, but growing up we had so many Tiffanys. Also the name Maloree always seemed very 'school bully who was also head the of the student body' sounding to me, not sure why...

    Phionellia

    Tiphoney

I've loved the pretentiousness of spelling "F" as "Ph" ever since I heard of a dog called Phideaux.

    Or Ashlee.

Ashleigh reminds of the nice girl character in one pony book series I used to read as a kid. She was a badass; rode race horses like nobody's business even though most jockeys are men. I've no idea what's the "original" proper spelling though.

I liked @123456789 's suggestion, Solara, 'cause it sounds fancy, the type of name some rich parents might give to their kid. A spacey name in general might work. Gee, maybe she's called Star. Or Stella.

Actually "Ashley" is correctly spelled "Aisling".
