How to Train Your Dragon is her favorite movie. And no one should kill dragons, there're endangered; even in Wales.;)

Bought a packaged salmon filet on sale at the supermarket and found out later that it wasn't de-scaled. Is this ordinary? I've bought fresh fish and filets on ice at the market. First time getting the foam and plastic.

While I think I've finally gotten control over my anxiety, I'm now trying to find out how to get in control of it when I'm in the middle of an anxiety attack. It's easy for me now, I think, to control my generalized anxiety when it doesn't peak (ie, I remind myself to not fixate on certain things, etc.) It's when it does that I'm concerned with dealing. I know one of the things they say is to not beat yourself up over it if you fail to not have an anxiety attack. But there must be other strategies as well. Thoughts?

"I am a poor wayfaring stranger a travelin' through this world of woe..." ~ Wayfaring Stranger, American Folk Song, Unknown Authorship

I couldn't help but to think of this song when I read the title of this thread. Fitting.

I have anxiety. It comes with changes in routine, or when I'm confronted with a situation when/where I don't know how to act or what to do. I do not handle it well, but I have learned some things that have helped me.

When I'm in the middle of an anxiety attack, I usually just ride it out if I'm in a more personal setting, but if it's not, I try to temporarily escape the situation by thinking about more creative stuff. Like my writing, reading, drawing, etc. It helps me more quickly get out of my current mindset, so I'm able to reassess and readjust to the situation. Sometimes it helps, other times not. But, it's worth a try.

Deep breathing is very helpful. I'm sure you've heard that more than a thousand times, I know I have, but it is helpful. The science behind it (not in technical terms, but you'll get the gist)...
There are nerve receptors that signal relaxation at the base of your lungs. When you inhale deeply, you trigger these receptors and you actually do, biologically, start to calm. Shallow breaths are more like hyperventilating, and everyone knows that's not good. The difference between breathing from your nose or mouth is something i have never gotten a straight, solid answer on, so I just leave it to personal preference.
When you take deep breaths, make an ocean sound. Imitate the sound of the waves. This requires breathing through your nose. You can do this by slightly restricting your throat and breathing in. The air passing through will create a soft sound. Like a snore, but just the air. Does this make sense? When you exhale, exhale just as "deeply" as you inhaled. When you inhaled, you constricted your muscles near the soft palate. When you exhale, restrict/constrict/tense more behind the nose. You'll feel the slight pressure in your sinuses, or right behind your cheekbones. It should make a similar sound. You can also try counted breathing. Inhale for 2, exhale for 2; in for 3, out for 3; in for 4, out for 4; and so on so on. Keep increasing the count till you can't breath in or out for however long you get up to. This helps transition from short, shallow breaths to deeper, more engaged breaths.

    Hope this helps!

Heya! :) Currently I'm doing dishes while listening to music. Finished a big project tonight and I'm cleaning the house while I've got time to myself. You?

I just got back from checking on a patient at work. Older cairn terrier. Poor thing has massive arthritis and a bladder infection, she's half blind and deaf. I'll just be glad when her owner picks her up from boarding monday. Boarding older dogs is a bit stressful.

Aw, dude. :( I remember when my first dog started getting old, it's such a slow heartbreak. We have two that are around 4-5 now, and I don't want to even think about that stage.

    Hi!
Trying to find the motivation to do laundry and wash the kids.

Spent the day running around. Now I just want to sit and cuddle but I have no one to cuddle with... so I guess laundry it is.

I work at a police department. Guns still terrify me.

They asked me to go to the shooting range with them one day.... I told them I'd be the one laying in the fetal position crying.

Needless to say, I didn't go.

Honestly I don't know. But I get clammy and light headed when I see one. I nearly passed out when my husband put a bb gun beside me years ago and ever since then I just feel sick around them.

I'm pretty sure hearing one shoot would make me curl up and rock.

    Not if you enjoy it.

I, on the other hand, am tired of the rain storm raging above me right now. The power keeps coming on and off, and had been doing so all day.

    GAH!

I love my job, but right now I just really wanna go home and either sleep the rest of the day away, or ice my hands so I can write. Decisions, Decisions.....

*has a doh! moment in realizing I can't leave work* :(

I am working on 2 hours of sleep. I would love a rest day... but alas, I don't get one... ever.
