Nassim Nicholas Taleb on intelligence They think that intelligence is about noticing things are relevant (detecting patterns); In a complex world, intelligence consists in ignoring things that are irrelevant (avoiding false patterns).
I'll be a bit serious... "Four or five moments--that's all it takes to become a hero. Everyone thinks it's a full-time job. Wake up a hero. Brush your teeth a hero. Go to work a hero. Not true. Over a lifetime there are only four or five moments that really matter. Moments when you're offered a choice to make a sacrifice, conquer a flaw, save a friend --spare an enemy. In these moments everything else falls away..." -Colossus from Deadpool (2016)
Professor Mahmoud Hessabi was a famous Iranian contemporary researcher and physicist and founder of modern physics, He one time met Albert Einstein and talked around some physics matters. These are some quotes of Hessabi: ; ; Life is researching and realizing the new things. Be active but mild, be just but forgiver. A good action is better than thousand advises. The sad story of life is not only humans die, but it is that they fail to love. The world is vast enough that it is a place for all creatures, so instead we try to occupy the place of others, it is better we find our own places.
@Mans, I heard something when I was in Turkey that I believe is a hadith, but I'm not sure. It said something like "Allah's word is like pure water falling to the Earth, but man was created from dust, and what results is mud." Have you ever heard anything similar? I'm not a religious person, but if I was, I'd think that could explain a lot of the problems we have here.
I have studied many Islamic quotes, but I haven't seen the quote as a Hadith. The first part of the word seems true because it describe the word of God as the pure water that is clear and life- giving but the last part seems meaningless and vague for me. (real)Islamic quotes has a higher, strength and intellectual content that attract the thought of reader. The main words of God (direct words) are in Koran, but there are some quotes of Islam messenger or Imams that are considered as Gods doctrines as well (indirect words), because the messenger of Islam or Imams ( the 12 official successors after Mohammad) didn't say anything by themselves, and every word that they expressed in their life was from God as well. So based on my experience and recognition, it is not an Islamic quote that its root is in a divinely quotes , although it is similar to. " ...and what results is mud." It dose mean the pure water that sent down from God ( I haven't heard that God sends such water from himself as a material!) mixed with dust, a mud was created and it became man. Yes the physical body of man is from soil elements but (in the quote) it dose mean human is just a muddy creature! This expression seems as a man-made word for me. Man has two aspects or dimensions. 1- His materially aspect that is his body and it is not very different with animals. 2- his spirit (soul) is an exclusive and exceptional thing that is not only so much higher and greater than the simple soul of animals, but also can be higher and more valuable than angels! Human is between these two aspects, one side an earthy body with instincts such as eating, sexuality and anger; and one side his heavenly and valuable spirit that has not been given to any other creature. The capacity of our learning, our intellect and our ability for speaking and the other advantages that we have to animals are due to our exclusive and high spirit not just our body or brain. Well, what human has to do between these two aspects? In the other word, what God does expect (via religion) from man to do, while God himself has created him so? In fact, human is obligated to create a balance between his instincts and his spirituality by his wisdom, based on God instruction ( heavenly religion). Of course the best balancing is that human's spirituality dominates on his instincts, controls them, and use them in the best and most proper situations. Excuse me this explanation will take long, so please let me I finish it at this point, especially that my English is not fast
"Eliminate the impossible and whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth." Sherlock Holmes "Know yourself, and know your enemy, and you'll go undefeated in 100 battles." Sun Tzu (Chinese strategist) "Behind every cynic is a broken hearted idealist." Heard through a third party. "It is in fear, hatred and greed that men become monsters." Personal quote.
This one was the inspiration for my SF short story "Seconds of Eternity." “If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves.” --Winston Churchill
