    I Impulsively Join Forums

Discussion in 'New Member Introductions' started by TheSameDullKnife, Feb 7, 2017.

    Greetings, all.

As the title of this thread may suggest, I join forums on impulse. I do this because I'm socially awkward and like to attempt to socialise beyond my failings at such things offline. I've deemed joining this forum to be a worthy endeavor because I have always been a writer, wouldn't you know. I've been in a bit of a slump for a long while, now, however, and as such, I am hoping that being involved in discussions with other writers (even if it's simply as an observer) will help me to get back into writing more so that I may actually pursue this passion.

I actually studied literature in college, and do have a BA in English. This is most likely less impressive than it sounds, because I'm not really that on top of things, and my classes did not cover as much as people seem to expect them to have. Whether or not I actually end up being particularly active around here remains to be seen, because I look for a certain vibe in online communities, and I can't really know if that vibe is present until I've interacted with some of the regulars personally. I do hope to stick around, and I hope to have many nice discussions with you lot about the things we like to write and beyond.

Oh, and I respond to Carl or Andy, if you don't want to call me TheSameDullKnife. :)

    Welcome welcome welcome

I can't tell you how happy I am to see that it's not just me who uses too many commas. (I love commas, and am constantly getting feedback that I use too many!) Couldn't help but do a little dance when I read this.

Welcome to the forum! Sounds like you'll fit right in and I hope you'll find that mysterious vibe here. :D

What kind of writing project are you working on / planning to work on? A novel, a short story...? By the way, we also have writing contests here. Give it a go; might even get you out of the slump. ;)

Here's our New Member Quick Start to get you started. See you around!

I also am often criticized for my excessive use of commas. I can never seem to stop, though. Text looks weird wihout them!

I did see the contests and will most likely join in at some point, perhaps even the current rounds. Something like that is what I have been hoping to participate in.

Currently, I'm not working on any projects, as I simply lack the proper motivation. I have been world-building for years for work on a novel, or novel series, about superheroes, but each time I get started on a story itself, I have difficulty developing it properly. I technically did finish a very first draft of my earliest version of the story, but that was in 2010, when I was still in high school, and I no longer feel it's the story I need to tell.

I'm also hoping to write a collection of short stories and/or poems of the macabre. That's been another ambition of mine since high school, and I'd love to get some really dark material released one day.

The main reason I'm having difficulty with either project at the moment boils down to life just being life. I had the drive and time to write when I had less stress and responsibilities, and at the moment, life is being difficult, and has been for a few years now. I'm working through it, and things are improving, so if I can get the drive for writing back, I should have the time and energy again before too horribly long.
