What Would Your MC Do? (part II)

Trenton: Myrius Raleigh's severed head next to a cold mug of the dark stuff. I could die with no regrets.

Atlan: ...Set me free. What kind of idiotic question is that, you daft lark?

Griel: I know you've heard of me, jailer. How about a quick game? One hand of Joker's Black. If I win, I go free. If you win, I tell you where the gold is. Your draw.

Ah, time for a night out on the town. What is your MC up to?

 

Tim: First I'll probably go for a tipple or two but I'll definitely end the night out of pocket either due to more than two or Dot betting on something.

What does your MC hope could happen when they die? (This is regardless of what they believe happens)

 

Dennis: I'd like you to send me back in time six hundred years so I can find everyone who worked on developing the brain transference technology and take them out. That would prevent centuries of pain and suffering.

Martin: I wish that you could compel Tabitha to hug me so tight that I turn to dust in her arms. To die feeling the embrace of someone who cares about me... I think... I hope... would be the high point of my life and a dream come true.

Khloe: I wish for peace on Earth. Is there really another answer?

Sarah: Make it so that from here on out everyone lets me live my life the way I'm living it. I don't think I'm hurting anyone.

Emily: There are too many things that I don't know. I wouldn't want you to waste a wish on me. I'm doing fine.

Tabitha: I wish to be able to fully understand the minds of everyone I encounter. That would give me a major leg up in my career. Not to mention hours of fascination.

Henry: I wish to be born under different circumstances. Then I'd show everyone what I'm really capable of.


What is your MC's biggest sin? What (if anything) are they doing to atone for it?

 

Nina: Envy, I guess. My sister... She's always been better than me. She got good grades, the best job offers.. And she never had to work for any of it. Shit just came so easily to her. She enters a raffle, she wins. She applies for one job, she gets it. But me? I struggle, day in and day out, with nothing to show for it. But one day.. One day she'll be gone. Then I'll be the best.

Seren: Indifference... Maybe if I.. If I'd tried a little harder, done a little more... Maybe my dad wouldn't have left. Maybe Verda wouldn't have gotten sick. Maybe I would've seen Errol's madness before it was too late. But I was scared. Scared and childish and selfish. Keep your head down, my father used to say. You see nothing. You hear nothing. I lived by his bad advice for entirely too long.

If your MC could meet one person, dead or alive, who would it be and what would they say?

 

Tim: My father and I wouldn't say anything, I would just punch him one.

A close friend or family member is terminally ill. How would your MC react to the news?

 

Fredrick: "Try my best to be there for them for the remainder of their days. Do what I can to help everyone else. I wasn't there after Dad died, but I have no reason not to be there now."

Jason: "Um, okay, um, do I have to answer this? I don't want to think about this. Death is- is huge and scary and- and I don't know if it would be worse to see it coming or not. I'd be a mess until it's finally over, I know."

Sharon: "If Jason was dying. . . I'd be scared. I'd be alone, afterwards, and that's scary. But until then, I'd try to be nicer to Jason, make his last days not so miserable."

(Answering this made me half want to kill Jason. I really like Jason. I don't want him to die. But it would be an interesting plot for Sharon.)


What sort of situation makes your MC uncomfortable?

 

Jayden: Realizing that nothing I do will matter, in the end... [stares into the distance] well shit that's depressing

Skye: Social situations with people I hate. I'm pretty extroverted, usually, but having to keep myself from physically harming people while pretending to be nice to them is... well, uncomfortable.

Maddox: Jayden. Talking to Jayden. [pause] In all seriousness, though, thinking about copious amounts of bugs makes me uncomfortable. Just imagine, giant roaches swarming... [shudder]

Issa: ...Everything. The thought of being outed, death... Well, snakes are cool, I guess.

Rei: ...No.

Leo: Being trapped in small spaces, forgetting to lock the bathroom door and someone walking in, watching something questionable and someone walking in, etc.

How would your MC imagine an alternate universe where they are the villain?

 

Ginzaekh (main protag): To see his family again.
Gazi (secondary protag): To say goodbye to her family.
Zash (secondary protag): To not die, please.
Dav (secondary protag): To have his novel published. As is, because he doesn't trust anyone to edit it correctly if he's not around to veto things. (He's extremely grateful he didn't have a sequel planned.)
Nat (mentor character): To apologize to everyone he's wronged.
Zarakharn: (primary antag): [laughs under breath and names something ridiculously extravagant]

 

Alex: *shudders...I...ah..I prefer to die than to imagine that. Sorry
Sam: That would be horrible, why would I ever be a villain? *Sighs* but if I really have to answer, I'd say I'd be a villain with a conscience at least, you know, like, just because I'm a criminal or something, doesn't mean I can't have a code or some such.
Vanessa: If you'r on my side you'd be fine. But if you stand against me, [*her eyes narrow, a threatening smile forming on her lips] then you're screwed. I don't do mercy.
Anna: Ooh that could be fun. Me as a villain? Oh, poor...well everybody, really. I mean the chaos that I'd wreak on the world...don't get me wrong I love being the good guy and all, but to let go, to lose control. Tempting. At least to fantasize about.
Could I take over the world? I think I could take over the world, who better, am I right? I'd make an awesome queen of the world. I'd even be merciful to my subjects and everything. So along as they, you know, don't piss me off. Speaking of things that piss me off, how would Alex react to that? As the queen I'm not gonna take his nagging anymore. I love you little brother, but TAKE YOUR WHINING ASS ELSEWHERE.

So...in conclusion, an AU with an a evil me would be a shitload of fun. And I' make an awesome, badass, sexy queen. So there. Deal with it.

How would your MC fare in Westeros?

 

Statistically, anyone's main characters, if dropped into Westeros, wouldn't be one of the 0.0001% that the books are about. They'd be one of these people.



My characters would fare poorly.

Your MC's body is destroyed in a flash of light, but their consciousness shifts into a prosthetic body prepared for them. They are made instantly aware of a war to locate and eliminate the remaining flesh in the universe by artificial organisms. They are given two choices:

-Join the purge willingly, and their mind will exist as it was.

Or

-Refuse, and said refusal is 'removed', and they join the purge with a 'corrected' mind.

What do they choose and why?

 

This question actually seems tailor-made for my novel, and it's an interesting hypothetical that has made me think a lot.

Dennis: I am already a reluctant sheep for a system that deprives the mind of its right to the flesh it was born with. What's the big deal in the long run if I just take it one step further and speeding up the process by several magnitudes? If I can't be my own and have my own mind in this brain that would still exist only because of my birth, I'd rather be dead.

Martin: I have built prosthetic bodies as a synthetic, anatomical replacement for those who cannot afford organic ones. To imagine that a consciousness was implemented into my life's work that could actively seek to destroy what I have been trying to achieve is a sick irony that is not unusual to what I have experienced in my life. I have long been waiting for the opportunity to cease my existence when I accomplished what I set out to do. If unassailable obstacles such as these are put in my place to stop me from realizing these goals, although I have overcome so many others that appeared so dire, I would tell these sentient artificial organisms to do their worst. I still have my pride, and I will not actively be privy to going against my beliefs. "Correct" me, the universe has been doing that my whole life. I'll finally get the sleep that I've been craving.

What would be the darkest thing that your MC has ever imagined, and how do they feel about having that thought in their head?

 

Ginzaekh (major protagonist): One time he had a dream his grandfather saw his wife accidentally killed by a robber while he was defending their home from the intruder. His grandfather chased after the robber and killed him in revenge. His grandfather lived with the life he had taken weighing on him for the rest of his life.
Then, of course, there's the other dream he had where his father and grandfather were killed by a dark wizard, and the police chief who was obsessively chasing his grandfather committed suicide upon his grandfather's death. Ginzaekh tries not to think about it. It's not as if they were actual visions of the past...

Does your MC or another character have a relationship with or feel a certain way about someone that is difficult to describe? For example, they're not in love with them, don't have sisterly feelings for them, but they're extremely close to them?

 

Stephen: Er, yes. I suppose you could say that about me and Mirabel.

If your MC was a celebrity, what would they be famous for?

How would your MC imagine an alternate universe where they are the villain?

Dragomir: To some people I already am a villain. I hunt down those who threaten our secrecy for a living and kill them on the field. In the context of what you're talking about... not too different, there'd just be more people who want me dead and have more power to see it through.

If your MC was a celebrity, what would they be famous for?

Dragomir: I'm second born to the Serbian Crown, the strongest pureblood in our country, I think that it's safe to say I already am famous... or perhaps infamous, considering what I do for a living. For Lilium... either painting or being a seamstress.

Your MC has a day off! No interruptions, no distractions, no limits, how do they spend it?

 

Seren: I'd probably wander around outside the city for a while. I know I'd risk catching the sickness, but I like the solitude. Preithos can be so loud. I may stop by the bakery on my way home, see what new delicacy Miss Kay has come up with. At home, I'd try to relax, maybe read, take a bath... But eventually I'd get bored and head back to Loren's to care for the cows. I know, I know... You said "day off." I just can't stand being idle.

Giselle: Oh, wow, really? A day off? No school or studying or helping Dad with his campaign? Well, I'd definitely go shopping. Maybe hit that new strip mall in Denver Springs. Rumor has it a faerie runs the coffee shop out there! She'll enchant your cup and everything! Yeah, it probably isn't true, because if the cops heard of it and found out she's living outside the CZ, she'd be arrested on sight, but still... Might be fun to check out! I'm sure Jenn would go with me. Well, maybe not because she hates kinks... Maggie definitely wouldn't... Hmmm... Bronte? Oh, fine, I'll just go by myself! How dangerous could it be?

Your MC just came into a large sum of money! How will they spend it?

 

"What's money?"

"Earth concept. It is an 'intermediary' resource, used as a stand-in for actual resources in peer-to-peer exchanges."

"The values of all resources are an easily calculable, priori known. Why would one use a third thing to trade for things, instead of just trading the thing itself?"

"Perhaps their means of solid resource sharing is inefficient."

"But the question stands: Why create something to represent something, to trade for something that represents something?"

"On Earth, the act of trading money itself is considered labor."

"They trade stand-in resources for other stand-in resources... to create more resources?"

"Yes."

"That's idiotic."

"You're missing the point. Just imagine you have a large surplus of calories, or energy. What would you do with-"

"The surest location of successful resource storage is within the biological metabolism, or digital process, of a friend. Immediately distribute said surplus between all peers and proxies, calculated by unit need, and efficiency-of-transfer-"

"Hah, there!"

"What?"

"Need. Money is latent need."

"That seems like a simplification."

"So... success?"

"Success."

Take one of your MCs and change their gender. How does it affect the character, and their story?

 

Fredrick's story would be vastly different. Frederica would still be involved in the war, but in a different capacity. She would probably end up being more of a spy, working for an official in the area and gathering as much information as possible. Until something happens and she gets found out, possibly killed this time around. Frederica would still be a patriotic soul, but more quiet about it (again, spy). She'd be a better liar, and would be more apt to use people to further her own ends. She wouldn't be afraid of getting her hands dirty, but it wouldn't be her first choice of action.

Jason would probably be much the same, except that she'd know she was really messed up, just wouldn't do anything about it. Story would be pretty similar, up until Jasonette gets herself knocked up.

Sharon would be pretty different. Guy!Sharon would at some point get fed up and attack his keeper, probably end up killing him. Then he'd flee and end up making the journey by himself, which probably wouldn't go well. Guy!Sharon would be more aggressive and violent, but less verbally abusive.


Your MC is given the chance to be able to (temporarily) shapeshift into a single animal of their choosing. What do they choose and why?

 

Tim: Well, I'd rather turn into anything than the 'bloodthirsty tiger' that I become monthly so.... something like a sheep? No one can claim you are a savage creature as a sheep.

Your MC wakes up in a jail cell. How did they get there?

 

My MC does just that in the story actually. He wakes up in the scorchyards where people are left to crisp out in the sun to teach them a lesson. The real criminals are left to get heatstroke. He winds up there on purpose because he needs to speak to someone in there, so he provokes the guards and gets himself beaten up. The "cells" are completely open, so it is pretty easy to converse... if you still have the energy to do so.

How would your MC handle being forced to work with their greatest enemy?

 

With extreme paranoia. He just knows he's gonna get stabbed in the back.

 

Alec: If Charlie told me to work with the leader of the gang who destroyed our business and killed a lot of our people, I would keep my hatred of the bastard to my self. Charlie's the boss: if she told me to work with him, I'm gonna do it.

Charlie: Get it over with.

Amy: I would constantly remind him that he'll probably want to run for his life when the job's done.

What is your MCs favorite superhero movie?
