That moment when you're happily reminded why you no longer have a Facebook and refuse to go back.

A szhweep sound? I love it. Is there an actual name for that sound? Lots of guitarists make it, although I think I hear it more on acoustic guitars than electric ones, for some reason.

Hi frequency sonar will go through the air - bats after all are airbourne, but it won't drill out of the atmosphere across space to a ship - for that you need something much higher frequency like Radio or Microwaves

Ok, so a radio frequency to home the ship to her location.

that ought to work - althoigh the power required to drill a signal through the atmosphere into space would be significant ... i mean Nasa do it all the time, but it wouldnt be something you could put in your pocket (with current tech ... of course with Sci Fi would can hand wave that vis star trek communicators)

We always called it a "string scrape" but I don't think there's an official name. You hear it more on the acoustic because the strings are thicker and more resonant. With an electric the sound kind of gets lost with all the amplification and effects.

You are either referring to a tremolo on the higher end, or a vibrato harmonic. Or a simple harmonic. Possibly a pinch harmonic.
    Acoustic/Elec.

    And the electric version

Unless you are talking whammy bar. (Acoustics don't have them, as the bridge is not sturdy enough
but they can use a slide.) I will post both.

And the even more obscure, playing with a violin bow. :D

I hope you found this helpful. :D

I think they're referring to the scraping sound the fret hand makes on the chord changes...

That one, yeah. I'm trying to remember which Pink Floyd song it is that David Gilmour does it a bunch on, but it might be from Ummagumma, which is a long search.

Yeah. I didn't mean intentional sounds, like harmonics, etc. I meant the scrape scrape (szhweep) that can happen when somebody changes fingering. It's kinda pleasant, but I don't think the guitarist wants it to happen.

Funnily enough I thought of that like right after I made my post on the matter.

TMW your plans for the week are ruined because of a loud mouth who likes to spread memos.

    Maybe next week :(

(PSA, I am not a terrorist. I know this joke is in poor taste, but I am, from the core of my being, compelled to make it.)

TMW you think of a question you'd like to discuss here, but realize it probably belongs in the Debate Room, and the few times you've looked in there....

It's fun but you have tolerate annoying behaviour sometimes. And opinions you may not like. Serious conversation is the test for positive relationships. It's easy to be friends if you never argue. As a result, it does challenge my positive feelings about other members at times when you see their bad sides, everybody has one somewhere.

Honestly, I don't have the stamina or the free time for the Debate Room. Some topic or other I was interested in had progressed three or four more pages in between my opportunities to check in.

Playing with a violin bow is for amateurs and posers, real guitarists use the whole violin:

TMW you finally after years and years of searching find your birth father's family including a sister you didn't know you had. This is way beyond my wildest dreams.

Today my chest got burnt (no, I don't learn) and I'm pissed I missed the opportunity to wear a cross necklace and have it burned into my skin. Dammit.
