    Introductions

Discussion in 'New Member Introductions' started by Casca, May 28, 2017.

So this seems like a charming place. I've been interested in telling stories since I was a boy but I've never done any serious writing. I've never even finished so much as a short story. So now that I've decided to finally take it seriously, I've come here to refine what little natural inclination towards the craft I feel I may possess.

As much as I look forward to participating in the Writing Workshop, I'm apprehensive concerning the quality of advice or insight I will be capable of giving in order to (fairly) receive my own. The most I can promise is that I will try my best with an honest effort and a humble understanding of my own lack of knowledge. Beyond that, all that I ask is that you patiently bear with me the burden of my ignorance.

I'm primarily interested in writing fantasy and science fiction novels and short stories but I try to expand my reading into multiple genres from supernatural horror to realistic crime fiction. In the drop down menu concerning preferred genre, I was disappointed not to see comic books represented. It would be nice to find a few other aspiring comic writers; even just some fellow readers who would enjoy discussing the subject.

Edit: I actually didn't mean to end my introduction so abruptly. So I'll just end it by saying that if you have any questions for or about me, feel free to ask.

    Beo þu gesund! :-D

Be at ease in this regard. In the giving of critique you instruct yourself as much as give insight to another. That is its purpose. Trying one's best is all anyone asks. :bigwink:

    Engage, enjoy, and be enlivened!

Thank you for writing this post @Casca. I came here to say similar after signing up last week and then I saw your post. I've been hesitant to share any critiques as I don't feel I'm aptly equipt to do so. Thank you for your reply as well @Wreybies. :) I'll do my best. :)

Hi ya Casca :superhello: Welcome to this great place.

Comic books are actually how I learned to read. Some of them are pretty fantastic.

Thank you for the reply. I suppose there is some truth in becoming a better writer yourself by training your own critical eye when reading another person's work. Certainly knowing what you like and why can help you identify some of your own problems.

I can't say they taught me to read but they certainly kept me interested. I love your picture, by the way. I've much respect for the world's most lovable tramp.

I have found that engaging a work of prose or poetry and thinking deeply on it so as to be able to give honest encouraging feedback and instruction has enlightened me greatly and helped me to grow in the art and craft of writing, and in writing poetry. I am eager to explore and enjoy this new place for such activity.
