Hmm, if no other characters enter, it will be quite interesting having arule that only women can be slingers
    @Fan7asticMrFox what do you think?

All the smart ladies, you mean! :p

I'm sure there has to be some men out there who don't favor the gun, we just haven't met them yet.

Kinda aes sedai style. Like, only females can be elementalists, period? Or do we divvy them up by element? Like women get earth and wind, and guys get water and fire?

I was going to have a Fireslinger in my character's background somewhere. I had thought it would be a male but now I'm kind of leaning towards a gender change. Feels better.

Sorry folks, in this imagined world of mine there are some badass females who can shoot a gun better than most and some dangerous lads that can shoot fire from there hands! Maybe you'll meet them, maybe you won't.

Now I intend to have a filler post up tomorrow, but just to give myself more of an excuse I am away Friday evening and the whole of Saturday at a good friends wedding, I've been doing prep for that this week and is also the reason I've been fairly slow. Should improve next week. As I said I hope to get a more significant post on Sunday but considering the wedding, timings might change. So I implore to continue in your characters own little world in the Crossroads for the time being.

Also Domino would you reckon those traders your character travelled with would still be in town for a little while?

Not sure. I didn't want them to stay long in order to seperate them from Jessie and allow him to get to know the other characters.
If you want to use them later they can always have had a broken wheel or something, forcing them to stay atthe Crossroads for a bit.

Sorry this is taking so long guys. The piece just keeps growing. I'm up to almost three pages worth of outline but I'll for sure have it posted later tonight.

Sorry for the delay guys. Promise to have the intro up before I got to bed tonight. This post really got away from me more than I expected haha.

No worries Von - I'm a bit behind myself, I've literally only just got back from the wedding! In truth I'm still feeling a little... tender, shall we say. Going to check some messages and then sleep ha! So expect a proper post tomorrow instead. Apologies for the delay!

So I'm thinking that the reason we don't give Bernard whiskey is because Bernard is an aging Fireslinger that has turned to drink and has an unfortunate habit of burning stuff when he gets too much of "the creature" in him. Whadda y'all think?

Although that may be putting too many "badass" types in sleepy lil' Crossroads. It's 3:30 AM. I should be sleeping, not ideaing.

Bernard was put in just to be a filler part, however considering both him and Gareth are drunks perhaps they have spoken together in confidence before. I'll leave it up to you whether you want to develop the character :)

Also, I am still waiting on another character to come in and some intro posts, but after that things should progress a little more. If I get time I'll throw a little drama in.

I think we should already try to get our characters together, maybe at thw saloon or any other place.

Saloon could be tricky because Ada already openly expressed reluctance to even come near that place. I think we'll be fine with gathering our characters when the storm gets closer. Our characters don't know it's more than an ordinary storm, so they'll seek shelter anyway, might as well all be in the same building.

    Name: Rosamond “Desert Rose” Redmond

    Age: 26
    Gender: female

Appearance: A diminutive woman, who looks younger than she is. Could almost be mistaken for a teen, but is more well-endowed up top than her petite frame would suggest; she’s very self-conscious about it and tends to glance down at inopportune moments. She is baby-faced with a very fair complexion, rosy-cheeks, and big, pale gray eyes, behind glasses too large for her face. When coupled with her extreme shyness, she often looks like a deer in the headlights. Her curly black hair has a subtle reddish glint when the sun hits it just right, but appears jet black in most settings.

Rose looks the part of a gunslinger, even though she has the worst aim this side of Craggy Peak. Has a custom revolver on each hip, black with gold inlay, each holding eight blanks (because when you know you’re gonna miss, you play it safe). They are perfectly identical, except the cylinders rotate in opposite directions. Wears a gray skirt, button-up shirt, with a black vest, black boots, jacket, and bonnet. Well-kept, without being expensive. Looks like she could be someone’s butler, governess, or personal secretary.

Upon arriving at the Crossroads, she has a black leather case chained to her wrist and a key on a gold chain around her neck, tucked into her shirt.

Personality: Terribly shy, which some might mistake for aloofness or rudeness. Doesn’t know how to deal with people or carry on a conversation, but that isn’t for lack of trying. Very polite and rarely raises her voice above a whisper. Kind-hearted, but lacks the social skills to express it outwardly, so she does nice things on the sly, but will deny it if asked. Tends to gravitate away from crowds, and often resides in unnoticed corners, far from the action, and keeps an exit within sight. In short, she’s quiet, which lends an unintentional air of mystery to everything she says and does. Most don’t hear her coming or going.

History: Near the eastern edge of the Makazi Desert, there exists a nameless town on a small, oasis-like patch of green. There you will find the remains of what was once a thriving plantation, many generations ago. Now it is mostly salt and weeds. Toiling away inside the remains of an old barn you will find Clint Treadstone, one of the most skilled gunsmiths in all of Andros.

Some call him the “Bullet Farmer” or the “Merchant of Death.” To Rose, he is merely “father.” Not her real daddy, mind you. She hasn’t a clue who that might be. Maybe some deadbeat gunslinger couldn’t pay what was owed and offered his only child as compensation. Maybe she fell off a wagon as her folks rode off into the sunset. Or maybe she was abandoned in the desert and delivered to his doorstep by coyotes. The how doesn’t matter.

All she knows is he treated her like his own, in a town where she didn’t look or act like none of the other kids. They laughed at her fair skin, but he pointed out how she never burned in the Makazi sun, no matter how intense the heat. They found her fiery red hair odd, but he lovingly called her his “desert rose,” even when she chose to dye it jet black. In a town of firebrands, her quiet demeanor made her an odd duck. But she was his. She was special.

The Treadstones worship firearms. For Clint and his two sons, gunsmithing is no mere hobby or job, but a religious act. Each gun, an altar upon which sacrifices are made. Each bullet a vessel for carrying souls to the afterlife. The old man welcomed Rosamond into the fold, but his two sons saw her as an unnecessary burden. A Treadstone who can’t shoot is a drag on the family name… and Rose couldn’t shoot for shit.

She could build and clean a gun with her eyes closed. She could empty and reload a revolver lightning quick and certainly looked the part of a master gunslinger. But no amount of training could improve Rose’s marksmanship. Her ability to whiff even the simplest shot made her the town’s laughing stock, but she never gave up on the gunslinger persona. Guns felt right in her hands, so she began loading her revolvers with blanks --for everyone’s sake-- and soldiered on.

The friction between Rose and her brothers only heightened her natural affinity for fire. They knew, from a young age, she had the makings of a fireslinger. Hot gun barrels never blistered her fingers and she could handle cherry red metal fresh out of the forge, without gloves. While delivering a custom rifle to a client in a distant town, her brothers thought it would be funny to lock her in an outhouse and set it on fire. She emerged unscathed.

Though Rose never told a soul what happened, Clint eventually caught wind of the incident and was furious. But the old man wasn’t getting any younger. Both sons were eager to take over, making Rose even more of an outcast. She found herself being sent out on deliveries alone increasingly often. This gave her face time with the clients and slightly improved her social skills, but meant she was away from home more and more. She knew he was breaking the bond slowly, preparing her for his eventual departure.

Three weeks ago, she was sent to a town just east of Crossroads to deliver a high end weapon to a small time gang. Things went south when they refused to pay, resulting in a lot of bullets, blood, fire, and fatalities... and her being left with an expensive, bespoke weapon and no buyer. She headed back to Crossroads and sent a letter home, asking what was to be done. Two days ago, she received a reply from her brother. Five simple words:

    “Dad’s dead. Don’t come back.”

She’s been walking around town in a daze, counting clouds and ordering milk at the saloon ever since.

    Slinger Type: Fireslinger

    Update

The plan is for the story to progress when it becomes late night in The Crossroads. At this moment is currently still day, mid afternoon and the storm is not yet upon The Crossroads, but the winds have picked up. I still have a post or two to get in to build the drama and to help give some context to the following events before the night happens, at which point I will move things on.

I would hope that you all continue to add flavour to The Crossroads by creating more posts about the town. This is as much your story as it is mine and I like that we already have a saloon with a steadfast barkeep, a library with a grumpy old man and assistant, a school house, the sheriffs office, a ranch in the distance, etc. and would love to see more and also get to know the characters a bit more. Do a collab maybe? There always fun :)

I suppose what I'm trying to say is that at the moment this game is a sandbox, so take advantage while you can and do/create whatever (within the theme and tone of the game). When night comes around things will be a little different! If you have any questions just ping me a message and I'll happily answer.

I'm still in, just struggling to think of an opening post. I've never written such an introverted character before. It's... harder than I thought. I have a few ideas. I'll pick one and run with it.

I just didn't want to write over other people; wanted to give everybody a chance to get involved. But definitely still on board.

@Fan7asticMrFox Maybe it's about time to move the story further along. I think we're a little dry on inspiration right now.

Apologies all, been hard at work focus on the second chapter of my book - this slipped my mind a little! I will have a post up before the end of the weekend (most likely Sunday) and I will move it towards the early evening where the storm will come. After that the new day will be upon us and that's when things will kick off properly!

Better late than never! I have moved us on to the evening in The Crossroads, though it is as dark as a winter's night in the town thanks to the storm finally hitting.

I have further posts planned to really kick this off, but I also don't want to rush and I think it's important that the story builds. You can either sit tight or post what your character is doing in the evening. Happy for people to use Cassie, or create new characters in the Saloon or the owner of the general store etc. My next post will be in a day or so.
