Is my plot to far fetched?

Discussion in 'Plot Development' started by sven1234, Jun 24, 2017.

Hello there i am busy writing my first book i have hit 22k word count so far.
I am trying to write a thriller book.

It is about a serial murderer and rapist and a woman named Alice her brother Jack and a police officer Ryan and Julia.
Alice is the main target of the serial killer/rapist.
But the killer finds another woman named Lisa, Lisas character evolution after being raped turns her into the lover of the Serial killer and rapist.
Becouse of the love of Lisa despite what he has done to her he stops raping woman but they still kill people together.
They want to kill Alice to finish it once and for all
Julia Ryan Jack and Alice try to find the Killer and when they learn a woman is invovled they want to capture her to.
offcourse alot of things go wrong and Julia gets captured by Lisa and the serial killer.
They rape her together (last rape victim)
And Julia goes insane she is resceud before she gets killed Alice ryan and Jack save her.
and then the story is about the killer and Lisa hunting them to once and for all finish the job
While Julia goes insane everything you could imagine goes wrong.
I dont want to spoil all plot points and i am busy changing all things up and still writing

Have any tips for me ?
It features a very detailed rape scene (one of Lisa which makes her fall in love with him and one with Julia that makes her insane an also go around killing people)

Basically its a very evil versus good story with a lot of corruption

It doesnt sound likely - particularly the bit about being raped turning her into the lover of her rapist.

Rape generally is difficult to write and hard to sell .. search for the (many) threads by Ryan Elder for lots of discussion on this

Well my whole book is based on it so changing it would be hard.
I would have to throw it all over another arch which would be long and time consuming

How much research have you done on rape and its psychological effects ?

I researched alot before writing it, that alot of people have different effects on it
The idea of one woman being raped and falling in love with him is the idea of Stockholm syndrome
And the other is the classic case of being broken into pieces by a traumatic event and losing your sanity
The idea was to let them clash in the book

This all feels very familiar ground and I don't have the mental energy to rehash it again beyond saying that basing a book on rape is not a good idea unless you have the writing skills to write it very sensitively and definitely not letting it slide into rape apologia ... even then it will be very difficult to get it published /to sell books if self publishing.

I am going to bow out of the discussion on that note - good luck with your writing

Stockholm syndrome is commonly known as mainly a myth.

    No, no, no, nononononono...

Sorry, I'm not babysitting another dangerously misinformed rape-premiss thread. I'm just not. I don't get paid. Take this topic to some other site where the mods don't have a life and can sit in front of the computer 24/7-365.
