Nope. The forgetful person can be the one to do the constant reminders. I would have been more tolerant pre-PDA and pre-smartphone--not unlimited tolerance, but some. But now he can say, "Hang on, let me enter a reminder," and do so, and he can figure out what reminder patterns actually work for him.

I have a horror of being late, because my mother was always late. (Except for things where lateness involved serious consequences for HER. She never missed a flight for which she had a non-reschedulable, non-refundable ticket, for example.)

I sometimes have "Remember that X is coming up" repeating daily for a few days, and then, "Do X!" repeating every few minutes starting shortly before it's time to leave for the thing, until I do it and say, "I DID IT ALREADY SHUT UP!" and I delete the reminder.

Forgetting names is more problematic, but forgetting actions and events, I don't excuse him for.

How do you feel about Andersen's short story, where the mermaid was just using the prince as a means to an end to gain an immortal soul?

It's not a pretty message either, but it's at least straight forward in the usual European sense. She doesn't kill the prince in the end and even though she gets what she wanted, there's a penance.

Disney's Little Mermaid came out when I was 19, and even then I could just feel the pretty little girls in the audience looking at their DUFF's with a smug nod of "That's me, not you. You bitches are those wormy things in Ursula's lair."

Sweet Cthulhu, that movie was reprehensible in the extreme, and I'm not usually one to get my hackles too raised, but in this case I was actually hoping he got reduced to his basic atoms in the drive plume because fuck him.

And I totally saw myself as the wormy things in Ursula's lair.

I'd straight up make a bad contract with the sea witch, pure & simple.

Also, they live in the sea/ocean. Wouldn't they just call her a witch? And ours land witches?

I notice this all the time in movies. In Battle for Terra, there's a scene where the MCs are flying around and having a jolly time and a sky whale comes up out of the lower cloud deck and they are amazed at its beauty. All I could think about was why would they call it a sky whale? They don't have water whales on that planet and have never even heard of Earth to this point in the film and everything flies on this planet.

Wouldn't it just be a whale?

I know lots of words that I may not necessarily come into contact with in my real life. For example, twee. I mean, how twee is it for an American to even use the word twee? :)

If I finally compose a second verse to your salamander diddy, can we let it slide that I am totally at a loss at both words you used?

Because I'm trying to casually not engage to avoid exposing my ignorance, but it's getting harder. . .

Designated... There's a film with that title wherein the lesson at the end is that everyone is someone else's DUFF.

I remember when i was young and foolish I'd generally try to chat up the DUFF and ignore Ms pretty pretty .... they were generally 'grateful' and a lot of the time they weren't bad looking at all except in contrast

I think the above posts will have explained DUFF, and twee... Twee kinda' means affected, but in a sort of dainty or sentimental way that may have a hard time translating over to Americans since we don't use that word and haven't set up a reference bank, so to speak, of "things that are twee", where a Brit would certainly know tweeness when it was present in modes of mannerism and cultural concepts to which the word is applied.

You know the Crane Brothers, Frasier and Niles Crane? I would assign their effete mannerisms and use of the Mid-Atlantic accent as a kind of American version of tweeness in the way it sentimentally pines for Mother England.

Edited in an attempt to fix the URL. I really hate that "media" conversion thing. I should take the time to figure out what it's doing.
