Hello everyone at Writing Forums, my name is Austin and I am a (very) armature writer who has come here in the hopes of improving his writing skills. I don't have a hard and set genre of preference, but I tend to lead more towards Sci-Fi and Paranormal genres, primarily because those are areas of interest to me. I have lots of ideas for settings and worldbuilding, but struggle most with characters.
Salutations to the forum, sir. Well you are not alone. I struggle with dialogue. It just takes practice, and getting helpful feedback. Though it sounds like you have a lot of stories just waiting to be writ. Good luck with your works and I will C-ya around.
Welcome Austin (it's amateur by the way - an armature is the rotating thing in a dynamo) I think I prefer the other meme with which 'troll welcomes new people so yer tis
Thank you! I do have a lot of stories just waiting to be writ, I just need to get them, well, writ! The part I struggle with when it comes to dialog is A. Making it sound natural and not narmy/cringe-inducing, and B. Making sure my characters don't have the same "voice". I have seen a lot of writers who have fallen into the trap of making their character's dialog too similar. I understand, being one person having to write for whole menageries of characters, it can be too easy to accidentally develop a single "voice" for them. Whoops! Stupid auto-correct! Now I'm going to look like an idiot who can't even spell "amateur" right.
