Black, White, Blue, and Green can be crazy. Red want to be White stands for the life of forcing everybody to do exactly one thing, to be exactly the same as everybody else doing that same thing, for the sake of forcing everybody to do exactly one thing and to be exactly the same as everybody else doing the same thing. There's a word for that kind of life, and the word is "death." Really? You're telling us that you support the guild that most strongly stands for secrecy
I've got a thing for mill decks, creature theft, and graveyard interaction. I've had a lot of fun with my Wrexial EDH deck. He's expensive but does diabolic shit. On a side note, I'm not surprised that a bunch of writers all have blue in their personality guilds. I'm a big Boros and Gruul fan too when it comes to drafting... the more aggro the better when you only have a few packs to place with.
Fair enough From what little I know about the game mechanics, I feel like I would have the most fun playing Black/Blue too I am! I would've thought that Red would be more common Every time I talk about how excited I get by coming up with categories for characters first and then letting them tell me what happens next, I feel outnumbered by the people saying to free-form everything organically from the get-go because "real people can't be categorized, and characters who can be categorized won't feel real to the reader."
Red is more about passion, rage, and burning/destroying things in Magic while blue in more about contemplation, manipulation, and creation through mental subjugation, which makes it the more "artsy" color in my opinion. Another side note, if you haven't built a deck around the Sage of Hours you haven't lived yet. Mainly I used these guys: There're a bunch of other +1/+1 counter cards in the deck too. Basically the Thaumaturge allows you to cast any X or strive spells for free/minimum cost. It doesn't take long to fill the Sage up with counters and essentially take infinite turns until you win. It doesn't always come off, but you can sit there taking damage and wait for the run of counters to come. Or keep tapping the opponent's board for one white mana... your own board too, which activates heroic.
I don't know: Mark Rosewater has a lot of articles about the philosophies of the different Colors, and he's written quite about how they've tried to make Red more complicated than that Spoiler: Seeing Red http://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/making-magic/seeing-red-2004-07-19-0 As I discuss each color, I've been brining up what I consider to be the most relevant issue of that color. For red, I'd like to talk a little bit about how I believe red is the most misunderstood color. It's not that people's take on red is wrong. It's just very narrow. Yes, red likes destruction. Yes, red enjoys blowing things up. Yes, red is capable of getting very angry. But this is only one facet of red. And it leads to some false assumptions. Let's talk about some of these: Red is stupid – Yes, red is not the thinking color. But this doesn't mean red is unintelligent. Red is emotional. Red is short-sighted. Red is impulsive. But none of these are mutually exclusive of intelligence. Red can (and does) have some very bright people. Both Tanhgarth and Starke from the Weatherlight Saga, for example, were intelligent red characters. Red is a bully – Because Magic is a game about dueling, the cards tend to show off the aspect of the colors that lend themselves towards combat. For red, that means playing up the more aggressive emotions such as anger. This makes red seem like a big bully. And to be fair, it often is, but red does have many other less aggressive components. Red, for instance, is the color of passion and drive. Red is the home to most styles of art and poetry. Red has a very gentle side. It's just not the kind of things you build a Magic card around. Red is simple – Just because red doesn't like to think doesn't mean that its philosophy is simplistic. Emotions, for example, are quite complex. In addition, if you look at red's two most basic conflicts – chaos vs. order (red vs. white) and emotion vs. intellect (red vs. blue) – you'll see that they are both very intricate. Spoiler: Hedonism with Attitude (Black/Red) http://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/making-magic/hedonism-attitude-2006-08-14-0 Mono-red is driven by emotions. It does what it “feels” is the right thing to do. That said, red can very much get caught up in caring about others. Love, passion, loyalty, friendship – red’s into all sorts of bonding experiences.
You've all peaked my curiosity now. What does it say about me if my favorite deck is green and white? (I play with the kids, so I have a couple of decks, but always go for that one).
I'm a Blue/Red person who would probably love playing a Blue/Black deck more than a Blue/Red deck, so I have absolutely no idea
Man. I thought I was going to get some kind of major insight into my character. I never considered what the colors represent that way. Now I'm sad.
Green/white is awesome... justice, balance, nature, and growth. Lots of ramp and removal in Selesneya...
That's cool. Thank you Just went through them and ALL of my decks are white with another color. I hadn't ever paid attention.
This will fuck your day up in G/W... a 5/5 trampler for 4 mana at instant speed. I did a populate deck once that would copy this a bunch of times and kill everything. Sorry to hijack... do we have an MTG thread. If not, we probably should... sounds like we have a bunch of players.
Gah! You're going to make me get my cards back out, aren't you? I have something that's a 5/5 trampler that my son and his friends HATE. They haven't played in like 6 months because I kick their butts (and honestly, I barely know what I'm doing). I love trample.
No you're not! Learning is cool ... unless you're very low on Blue Maybe we just gleaned the major insight that you're not a naturally Blue person.
Yay learning, then! ... I also just made a poll if anybody's interested So far, we would have 1 vote in this thread for Blue/Red (me), 1 vote for Blue/White (@Laurus), 1 vote for Blue/Black (@Homer Potvin), and 1 vote for one of the four Blues (Trish). Any body want to take this to the other one?
I play a Black/White deck (well did). I don't have anyone to play with. Anywho... I like to sing simple famous songs in the car, and change the lyrics to make them funny.
I'm sorry. I haven't played in months. One of my favorite pastimes I mean, I'm not good at it, but it is fun.
