    Oh ok, I'm gonna do some more. There's film on in the background on Netflix and it's crap, so flagging some more threads will hold my attention ;)

    I'm not going by page, but using the "next thread" button to go through them in order. I started off somewhere in 2006, and I'm in January 2008 now. This could take a while.

    Do you have a target figure in mind , or is it just 'lower than a Maserati' to quote Chad Kroeger

    I feel reasonably assured that if it can come down to 6k, the resultant moves will have boosted the other subforums to being relatively on par, size-wise. My hope is that if the group of subforums all look relatively equal in attraction, as regards "this looks like a busy forum I'll post here", then people will be more apt to actually pick the subforum that makes the most sense rather than just pick the biggest one.

    To be honest there is a lot of dross which didn't belong in another forum but could probably be deleted as they don't serve as a useful reference and don't contribute to the community. Things like, "I want to write a story about x, how do I do it?" :rolleyes:

    I understand the urge to do that, but there are other considerations that I know are important to the owner, and his reasoning makes good sense to me. When I go looking for a forum, I want to see the evidence of the traffic that forum has received. I want to see the footprints of the citizenry. I want to feel that the "city" is full. I will also, of course, look to see how quickly new posts cycle into the forum. Is it going to be a place where I get real-time conversation, or is it the kind of place where 10 posts in a day is "wow, a new record high".

    You know, I'd never even considered this could be a problem; though the majority of my post are workshop and journal entries so that might be why. See people, you can learn something new every day!

    I don't like the idea of assigning assessments of value or lack thereof on things that are genuinely posts, as opposed to spam. "Not an encyclopedia" referred to the question of whether the thread is a useful reference.

    I'm all about organizing and neatening up. Also: you might want to add a "screenwriting" subforum to Creative Writing too... I've already run across a few threads in 2 pages.

    Oh, and maybe this thread could be stickied? I can't report it: https://www.writingforums.org/threads/writing-resource-links.4675/

    Oh (2): I also thought of adding tags to older threads - might make it easier for people to find things.

    EOTD this is wreys call so i'm not going to get into a big debate about it, but I know what mashers means.... there are a lot of posts of threads of no value lurking in there... I know what you are saying about community interaction but when you trawl through (I've done about 40 pages and mash probably likewise) you do see a fair bit of "How do i write" - no replies.. which has no value either in content or in community interaction (and actually desnt show the forum in a good light in terms of unresponded posts)

    However I get where wrey is coming from ref sensitivity arround stats in attracting users... plus there'll also be an issue about attracting advertisers who tend to put traffic into classes - the lower the class the lower the revenue

    @ChickenFreak
    I understand exactly what you mean, but as @big soft moose said, there are quite a few threads made asking the question "how do I write a story about x" or "what should I write lol". Many of them have no replies, or no constructive ones, and the OP never came back according to their post count. I think these are objectively low value, and reduce the professional image of the forum as a whole. However, as you and moose said, this isn't our decision and I'm sure the owners have a good reason to leave them. I'll assume they know better than I do about these things ;)

    I have the time to help (as everybody from the chat thread knows...) but I'm worried about duplicating with @mashers, @IHaveNoName and @big soft moose (and anybody else who's doing it). Is there some way we can coordinate efforts so we're all working on different sections of the forum?

    Edit: I've started in the middle of the forum in June 2012... hopefully new ground :meh:

    I can't work on this at the moment, so if you like I could PM you a link to where I got to. I'm working backwards, from the oldest thread to the newest. I click the "Next Thread" link to go to the next thread in the General forum. So you can pick up where I left off if you like.

    There have been a lot more than that - those must just be the ones outstanding at the moment ;)
