I am currently writing a story and want to make sure that the prologue is respectful of the past and not campy. Any suggestions?
I don't know what you mean by "campy" but in order to be respectful, you must be aware of the facts, so research would be the way to make sure you're presenting what ever past you're talking about in the light you wish to present it in.
I think if you present it honestly and in a relevant way, you can avoid making it campy. The key would be to pick the details that make the era you're you're putting the character in obvious but not overly. For instance, if you were going for the 50's you could mention a song on the radio, a hairstyle, or a 'brand new' Studebaker. You don't have to mention poodle skirts and packs of cigarettes rolled up in a shirt sleeve. Not that you can't, of course you can, but pick the things that are relevant. Is that what you were looking for?
