Don't worry. The giant burrowing cockroach and other native cockroaches aren't big on scavenging trash. So they're more hygenic. And the burrowing cockroach is a complete vegetarian that eats decacying plant matter. It's the introduced german cockroach, the most common western species, that's a real pest. It's aways the Germans...

    Well Nikita is Russian.

Nikolaos (Greek: Νικόλαος) is a common Greek first name which means "Victor of People", a compound of νίκη nikē 'victory' and λαός laos 'people'. The connotation is "people's champion" or "conqueror of people". The English form is Nicholas.

Someday I'll learn to stop clicking things :(

@KaTrian I would have assumed male, and the equivalent of Nicholas like Cave Troll said. Unless she's assuming it's Nicole?

I know, right? I was baffled.

You know, I guess it's not a bad thing we have those "what do you think of my character's name?" threads. :-D

    @KaTrian

I think the author either didn't do their homework,
or they are not a native English speaker.

What they did with the name, is not the same as
Stephen/Stephani where there are two names
of both male and female version.

Just like Nikita is like Ashton, and can be either
    male or female.

So Trump basically banned transgendered people from joining the U.S. military. I go onto Facebook and my feed is riddled with this, as well as unrelated posts of people having a good time.

Humans. You make no goddamn sense to this whale. <swims off>

    The author's American.

There are other small details that take me out of the story too. Like apparently it's somehow amazing the female protagonist can go jogging with her 5'9'' friend even though her legs are shorter (she's described as of average height I think). Pfft, I run with my 6'2'' brother on the regular, no biggie, especially since the character claims she can run for hours without stopping. Color me unimpressed. Now I sound like a nitpicky prick, but I'm sure we all have things we're passionate about and if someone portrays these activities "wrong", we get all huffy and puffy over it.

Reminds me of the very first draft I wrote, where I had my pre-teen protagonist able to run faster than an Olympic athlete. :p

Was this a fantasy? If yes, I think it's fine. I've written about superhuman preteens before in fantasies. Heck, if Stephen King can write about a preteen with the power to start fires, you can write about a preteen who's abnormally fast.

I just realized something funny in my fantasy: conflicting characterizations, especially with one of my characters. In one scene he's defending the leading protagonist, saying she's quite capable, etc. Two scenes after that and he's all, 'Oh god, what the hell is that thing? Get away from me, burdensome child!!'

I want wireless headphones, but like shared wireless headphones.

Like headphone splitters to listen to music privately with a friend or few, only wireless.

And maybe be still able to talk to each like a cellular Bluetooth earpiece, but while listening to the music.

Just continuously streaming the music wirelessly to multiple headphones, with a chat function.

So I can walk along a beach with my best friends to the soundtrack of AKFG, and still converse, without blaring my foreign music over portable speakers and disturbing other beach-goers.

Is that really so much to ask for?

Or you could share ear buds, like friends in high school used to do. :D

The thing is we usually DO either go 80s style or share earbuds.

The problem is we listen to rock music, so someone gets the rhythm section and someone gets main vocals and lead guitar & yeah. . .

I just feel weird blasting our strange music to strangers and we usually get half a music experience or else our third best friend gets left out.

You can pair multiple bluetooth headphones to a single device so everyone can hear the song through their own pair. As for conversing over that? I'd recommend screaming.

ETA: disregard this. Apparently you need multiple bluetooth "chips" or a splitter to do this. I thought I'd done it before but I guess I imagined that.
