    LitFire... beware

Discussion in 'Marketing' started by Lew, Jul 26, 2017.

Just got a call from Lit Fire expressing intrigue with my booklet, "Come, Follow Me" and lavishing praise on my writing while I googled up information on them. They were unaware that I had published another book, E&D, so they could not have done much research, as the two are linked on Amazon. They also promised me advertisements in their Wayfairer Magazine, not pointing out the similarity to (real) Wayfarer magazine of Homebound publications. They also offered to get my book into the Decatur Book Fair over Labor Day. After a while, I interrupted her spiel to ask why there were so many negative reviews on them, for bait and switch, high prices and non-performance. She blamed all of this negativity on one person, whom they said they were suing but had to leave her posts up as evidence. She said I could find much better information on Better Business Bureau. Since that had popped up on my Google Search on them, I opened that while we were talking. The were two glowingly positive reviews that were devoid of any information about what they had actually done for them, like book titles, etc. There were eight negative reviews, most dealing with offers to promote books at book fairs, then raising the price to the stratosphere, then cutting that by half "because your writing is so good" then not delivering anything. The BBB intervened in all these cases, and in most cases they refunded the money. I asked her to tell me what the cost was, she said $599, but that was just to register for the book fair. I asked if I was to do that through Decatur Book Fair (I had their site up) and she said, no, I would send them the money, they would make sure I got a good slot. .. caveat emptor, folks, beware of this one

Don't know about Lew, but the pricks get mine through the Library of Congress.

Yeah, from copyright registration. I had a film agent once upon a time and nobody in Hollywood would so much as say hello to you without a certified copyright in hand. This was awhile ago... I don't think they're as strict now.

Either that or my website. "Come Follow Me" is not officially copyrighted. They actually hit on me in January, a month after CFM hit the streets, so I guess they look for new publications on Amazon. And @BayView, if you have a landline, Google probably has your telephone number as well as LOC
